Hi!
I come from Belgium and I grew up with three native languages: French, English and Dutch. I speak French at home with my parents, English with my American stepmother and Dutch in school and college. In college, I studied German and Spanish. I also studied Italian and Portuguese on the side. I am fluent in these seven languages and I have taught all seven of them. I have been teaching languages for about two years. I have worked for teaching companies like MySherpa, Studentenring and Italki.

In my classes, my students get the opportunity to practice a lot. It is important to learn the theory first and to put it into practice with exercises.
I have powerpoints with exercises for my students so they can practice at home what we learned in class. At the beginning of every class, I always review with the student what we learned last time.

I think it is really important to correct students’ mistakes. However, that should be done in a relaxed atmosphere. The students should not feel stressed or scared to make mistakes. Furthermore, it is essential to make the students feel comfortable with their teacher. That can only happen if the teacher is tolerant and patient.
I like to teach English for two reasons. First of all, I know the importance of English in today’s world. By teaching English, I know I help my students to communicate with other people all around the world, which makes me feel better. Second, I love to learn foreign languages too. When I teach English, my students remind of when I was learning the language myself.
I am a strict teacher who does not hesitate to correct students’ (grammar or pronunciation) mistakes. However, I do that in a friendly and tolerant way, in order to not stress the students. Like I said before, it is crucial to be patient and patience is a quality I have.
