Hello, I am Kathrine from Malaysia! :)

I am a professional piano teacher with 10 years of teaching experiences in Malaysia, Singapore, and now in Japan!
I provide private piano lesson in English, Mandarin, Japanese, and Cantonese, mainly in Tokyo, Kawasaki, and Yokohama area.

Here are some of the things you can expect from my lessons:
I enjoy incorporating music games (Kodaly method) and arts into my lessons, regardless of your age! (I believe learning through play is highly effective.)
I don't only teach "music knowledge." I value cultural exchange with my students. Through lessons or specific pieces, we can share our languages, songs, backgrounds, and more!
Whether you're preparing for exams or pursuing music as a hobby, my ultimate goal for students is to find JOY in every lesson. While learning an instrument can sometimes be challenging, I'll use my experience to guide you, and together, we'll overcome any hurdles. :)

I started learning the piano at the age of 6, beginning with a classical background. I then pursued my music degree in contemporary music (jazz, pop, etc.) at UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In the year 2019, I received my Bachelor's in Contemporary Music. Meanwhile, I also hold qualifications in ABRSM Piano Grade 8, both in practical and theory.

I have almost 8 years of teaching experience in Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan. I have experience teaching piano to students of all ages, from kids to adults, ranging from beginner to advanced levels. This includes teaching special needs students and junior music courses. I am also experienced in both preparing students for exams (ABRSM/Trinity) and nurturing students' general interest in music.

My teaching approach integrates the Kodaly and Orff methods, ensuring engaging and enjoyable lessons. Drawing from my cultural background in Malaysia, I am proficient in Mandarin, English, Cantonese, Japanese, and fluent in Malay. Up until now, I have taught students from various countries, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, India, Italy, France and more.

I am a professional pianist, who have over 20 years experience in teaching piano and music theory.

I teach all ages, beginners to professionals, have many international students, and a class for Associations Franco-Japonais (AFJ), in English, French, and Japanese.

I also prepare students for exams or competitions, such as Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM, ARSM, DipABRSM), and Advanced Placement (AP) Music Theory, etc., and most of my students have achieved with distinction.

In my class, considering capabilities of each student, we will work and find together what is the best way for them to enjoy music, based on technical assurance and control, matching musical interpretation, communication, and delivery.

Teaching locations will be at a lesson studio in west Tokyo (Kamishakujii), student’s home, or online. Group lessons are able only for music theory at student’s home or online.
Hybrid lessons (combining face-to-face and online lessons) are also capable.
