Studying economics is more than understanding the economy. It’s about analyzing how individuals, groups and countries manage and use their resources. Economics is a broad subject—so much so that it’s broken down into macroeconomics (looking at the economy as a whole) and microeconomics (focusing on individual decisions). Both aspects are important to inform future choices and forecast market trends, and by studying them you’ll develop skills to take into any ambitious career. So what’s the deal with getting an education in economics? We’ve put together our top five reasons below, so you can make an informed decision about your future in economics. 1. Economics is everywhere Economics is a part of everyday life, and it’s also the gateway to the future. Studying economics gives you a better understanding of market dynamics and from there, you’ll be able to apply your knowledge to different organizations you go on to work with. The field of economics is also growing at a rapid rate. Cryptocurrencies and fintech are redefining today’s landscape, and those with a solid economic understanding will be those who lead us into a future of limitless possibilities. 2. Make an impact Economics allows you to drive positive change. It’s a field of study that’s interwoven with technology, management, entrepreneurship, and humanitarian progress, so our programs take a hands-on approach to introduce you to these different aspects and their potential for unlocking growth. Our economics programs also enable you to understand the links between these different but interrelated areas, so your future decisions are fully informed. As the economy is constantly changing, with your knowledge, you’ll be ready to influence business decisions and adapt to fluctuating markets effectively. 3. Gain an international perspective Economies work in tandem with each other. The links between them will give you an international understanding of how the world works and reveal insights into different cultures, people, and societies. 4. Develop transferable skills Studying economics develops a lot of soft skills for you to take into any career. In particular, economics puts you in a prime position to develop your analytical and complex problem-solving skills. Other important skills for our globalized world include communication and cultural awareness, which you’ll also hone with an economics program. Additionally, you’ll improve your business knowledge—an asset that is essential in every corner of the working universe. 5. Boost your career prospects Economics is the backbone of any sector and you’ll be able to apply your knowledge across a variety of roles. With economics, your potential career paths include (but aren’t limited to!): finance, banking, insurance, law, and governance. Of course, a deeper knowledge of economics opens up more senior roles—and with a master’s degree in economics, you’ll be in the running for high-level positions. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report, analytical thinking and complex problem-solving skills are at the top of the list of most important skills for 2025. Economics graduates are already in high demand, which is only going to increase as their unique skill set becomes more sought-after.

Trusted teacher: Hello, I offer one-to-one private tuition to university students and adults in Political Science, Essay/Dissertation-writing, Political Economy, Economics, and European Studies. I have 15 years of experience in high-quality private tuition, and I am also a Lecturer in EU Politics at one of the world’s leading universities (University College London - though I am currently working remotely from Brussels). My main areas of specialization are European Union politics and political economy, but I also regularly teach all other areas of Political Science, including Public Policy, Comparative Politics, Introduction to Politics, Populism, Democratisation, and many more. In addition, I teach Economics at a beginner/intermediate level. I can also help with dissertations and essays, at the undergraduate, Master or Ph.D. level. As I supervise and mark UCL students ' dissertations throughout the year, I am able to give you the marker's perspective and help you ensure that you obtain a top mark. In addition, I am experienced in helping adult learners who want to improve their skills in Political Science or basic Economics, for professional or personal reasons. Teaching is an activity that I deeply enjoy, and for which I have great enthusiasm. I was recently nominated for the Award for Outstanding Teaching by the UCL Students' Union. The feedback which I received from students taught in the past was very positive. In particular, I was told that my teaching had inspired students, and had made complex subjects appear simple and interesting. My approach to teaching is results-focused. I first discuss with the student what are his/her objectives (this may be achieving top marks on a final exam, being able to undertake exercises given as homework, or increasing their understanding of certain aspects of a subject). We then devise together a work plan, to ensure that the student meets those goals. This approach has been very successful in the past, as it is not only important to understand a certain subject, but also to be prepared for the particular type of examination or assessment that the student will need to face. I have a Ph.D. in Political Economy from Utrecht University, a master's in European Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges, and a degree in Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE). I am available to meet students either in person in Brussels (ideally at ULB or VUB, other locations also possible) or online through Zoom. Alternatively, I can work via email exchange only (for example, to help with essays and dissertations). I normally teach in English, but as a fluent French speaker, I could also teach in French.

Trusted teacher: After years of working in financial positions in the corporate world, I switched to education in 2016. At the moment I teach at the CIOS in Sittard. There I teach the Mathematics and Entrepreneurship courses. I also taught (Business) economics courses at other schools. I enjoy the contact with the students and I like to transfer knowledge. The aim is to ensure a low-threshold approach. I also live in beautiful South Limburg with my girlfriend and our two children. In my spare time I like to go out on a road bike or mountain bike. When providing 1-on-1 lessons, I think it is important that there is an accessible, personal approach with a lot of time for the individual. Only in this way does the student get the feeling that he can ask all the questions that concern him. Often the problem is not even in the material itself, but rather it is more about helping to go through the theory together, in understandable language. In addition, it may turn out that other basic skills are not yet sufficiently available. We are also working on this. I always try to make clear what the structure is that is used to solve a problem. This gives the student more support. It is also important that the student learns to take responsibility for himself. My Mathematics tutoring is for MBO, VMBO, secondary education and PABO. I also tutor Economics and Business Economics for VMBO, HAVO and VWO. Since the classes take place online, we have great flexibility regarding the time when the class can take place. During the Corona crisis I gave a lot of online tutoring and I really liked it.

Vishakha
Vishakha is a great teacher, I enjoyed the classes together! In one week she was able to explain me a whole semester program of financial accounting to get ready for my exam. She is very patient and allows you to learn from your mistakes by trying. She is ready to help and explain again what was misunderstood. Vishakha is teacher for whom it is very important when a student really understands concepts and basics of a class. So, she will be very creative to make you imagine these concepts in real life and to understand how the process functions. She chooses a personal way to each student depending on personal abilities and time. She is very flexible and always in touch with a student to answer all the questions. She is indeed to rescue you. Thus, I would definitely recommend Vishakha for everyone who really wants to understand the subject and be able to apply the knowledge to not only exams but also in real life,

Engin
I wish I had met more teachers like Engin during my education! He was always prepared for the classes to make sure he could address all of my questions and the time was spent efficiently. From the first meeting, you can see that Engin is a very passionate teacher with extensive knowledge and experience that really cares about his students. I also appreciated his flexibility, kindness and understanding in case I had to reschedule a meeting. He helped me a lot and it was a pleasant experience to work with Engin, 100% recommend!

Nick
Nick's approach is patient and thorough, informative and imaginative as well. He always comes up with his own examples in order to test my knowledge on a given exercise and helps me get to the answer at my own pace, rather than handing it to me. He doesn't use a one-size-fits-all method, but rather tailors his lesson in order to get out my full potential, even in a field I find difficult. He makes himself available for additional questions and is overall great to work with!
