I’m a university student in Berlin, and I give violin lessons to support myself. I’ve been playing the violin in orchestras and as a soloist since I was about six years old. I speak English at a C1 level and Turkish as my mother tongue.

I’d love to offer your child the same fun and well-rounded violin education I received as a child — at an affordable price. We’ll be working with the Suzuki Book 1, combining enjoyable pieces with solid technical progress.

Présentation
Hello!

Education
Hello!
I’m a university student in Berlin, giving violin lessons to support myself during my studies. After completing my high school education at TED Bodrum College in Bodrum, Turkey, I moved to Berlin for university.

I have been playing the violin since I was about six years old, and I’ve performed both in orchestras and as a soloist in numerous concerts. Since 2016, I’ve been actively playing and constantly improving my skills. Over the years, I have also studied and practiced many ABRSM exam pieces, which helped me build a strong technical and musical foundation.

My goal is to introduce children to music and the violin in a fun, inspiring, and structured way, helping them develop confidence and solid technique from the very beginning. In my lessons, we will work with Suzuki Book 1, combining enjoyable pieces with essential beginner violin techniques such as bow hold, posture, intonation, rhythm, and tone production.

I strive to keep my lesson fees as affordable as possible, as I’m giving lessons to support myself while studying at university. Lessons are available both in person and online, depending on your preference.

Expérience / Qualifications
Over the years, I have practiced and performed many ABRSM exam pieces, which have helped me strengthen both my musicality and technical understanding. In my courses designed for children, I plan to use the Suzuki method to make learning both enjoyable and well-structured, focusing on developing a strong technical foundation right from the start.

For beginner-level students, my goal is to create a comfortable and encouraging environment where they can learn the basics of violin playing step by step. We will work on essential beginner techniques such as holding the violin correctly, proper bow grip, posture, intonation, rhythm, and tone production. I also emphasize ear training and musical expression, so that students don’t just play the notes — they learn to listen, feel, and enjoy music.

Through fun songs and exercises from Suzuki Book 1, children will gradually build their confidence, coordination, and understanding of music in a positive and engaging way.

Toby
Professional violin and viola teacher based in Berlin, teaching in person at students' location or online, in English, German or Russian.

As well as instrumental teaching and ensemble coaching of at all levels over the last 12 years, I’ve led numerous professional workshops, including ‘Music First’ and ‘Music Masters’ workshops in London and was an assistant on the Primary Arpeggione viola course and at the Springgrove music competition. As a member of the European String Teachers’ Association, I participated in their conferences across Europe.

I have prepared students for music exams at all levels, working with them on music theory, aural and sight reading skills, and regularly accompany students on the piano.

As a performing musician, I appear as a soloist and chamber musician internationally, recently including at the ‘Gstaad Menuhin’, ‘Schiermonnikoog’ and 'Rome Chamber Music' festivals. I have participated in several international competitions, notably receiving the Barbirolli prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition 2019, 1st prize at the Małopolska competition, and the Len Lickorish Memorial Prize at the Royal Overseas League International Strings Competition.

I hold a masters degree with first class honours from the class of Tabea Zimmermann at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, and Bachelors with the same distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in London. I attended the International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove on four occasions and have collaborated with composers Garth Knox, Vasilis Alevizos and Thomas Jones on their new works, with performances in London and at the Agora Music Festival in Luxembourg.

As a chamber musician I have played with the 12, Seida and 4|12 ensembles, as well as with musicians of the Berlin Philharmonic and clarinettist Matthew Hunt at HellensMusic festival, with Tabea Zimmermann at the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, with Claudio Martínez Mehner and Christoph Poppen in Santander, and with members of the ARC ensemble at the Music of Exile Festival in Toronto, Canada, amongst others.

I was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra in 2018, and a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain from 2014-2015, appearing on BBC Radio 3 broadcasts and a televised BBC Prom, as well as being involved in the NYO outreach programme ‘inspire’ in schools across London, including workshops and interactive performances at the Royal Festival Hall.
