About Me

I have 3 years of working with students in high school age, getting help for the curriculum and college preparatory exams. All of my students were great and we worked hard to get the least important part (i.e. standardized exam) done well and in short period of time, so they can focus on their essays, school work, extracurricular activities. I also worked as a teaching assistant in college as well, leading recitation sessions and hosting office hours.

Education

Hotchkiss School; Carnegie Mellon University BS (Economics, Statistics); London School of Economics (Government); KU Leuven BA (Philosophy); KU Leuven MRes (Philosophy)

Experience / Qualifications

2 years of working as an investment analyst in US. I worked in a multi-asset fund and also as in investment consulting. 3 years of working as a private tutor during my college years.

Hello, My Name is So. I was born and raised in Korea and U.S.A. I have also spent some time in China. I currently live and work in Brussels. I am a graduate student focusing on Philosophy but have experience tutoring Korean up to the standardized testing levels (e.g. TOPIK, SAT 2); Or, we can simply work on your conversational or professional Korean. We can start from the very beginning and work our way up, as I guide you through Korean culture, history, art, films, literature, political history, and philosophy if you are interested as well. I personally love discussing Korean films (love nouvelle vague influenced films of the 60s and recent 2000-10s ones) and literature (from light-hearted mangas, critical essays, and keystone fiction). I am an enthusiastic teacher. All lessons can be customized based on your goals and needs. Materials can be provided, or if you have specifically requested materials, we can follow that as well. I do both in-person or online lessons, for your convenience. I work with students of all ages. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Thanks for your consideration.

SAT Prep by a Native Speaker and Exam Tutor (Critical Reading and Mathematics)
I am a native English speaker from USA and I specialize in teaching, exam preparation, instruction and text correction for several students and professionals residing in Belgium. Having taken the SAT myself almost 7 years ago, I am well aware of the traps college board uses to trick inexperienced test takers. I teach specific tricks and techniques to improve the student's scores in both the reading and the mathematics sections of the SAT. I instruct the student on language and the literary concepts, grammar rules, reading techniques, analyzing, pacing, and skimming for the reading section. Instruction for the mathematics section includes problem-solving and key concepts related to geometry, algebra and number operations. With experience in 4 different cities across Europe and Asia, I take a multidimensional approach to my classes, tutoring and assisting with both Academic and Business English, to ensure that all my students are at ease during the lessons which result in faster improvements and undeniable results. The lessons cover various topics, mainly focusing on comprehension, reading techniques, writing skills, grammar, vocabulary, and day to day conversation along with accent training and basic language skills. My former clients include students from middle school, high school, and college as well as professionals from various occupations. I have worked with them to improve their spoken and written English. I also tutor clients who want to improve their English at an academic level for exams such as the SAT, IELTS, EPSO, and TOEFL. These include high school students, college students as well as professionals, ranging from engineers to young interns at the EU parliament. I assist with exam based preparation to achieve the desired results and my clients have not been disappointed so far. I have further proofread, edited, written and improved a large number of essays, college applications, theses, personal statements, and assignments for various clients at an academic level. I like to make my lessons interesting, but at the same time, I make sure that they are as productive as possible. With a thorough understanding and experience of English grammar and literature, I further take care of ghostwriting, proofreading and editing of academic and professional papers. Weekly and monthly rates are possible in this case. I have no issues meeting anywhere in Brussels, or at a location or town close to the city.

Math or English tutoring, also SAT preparatory tutoring.
This course is fitted individually, depending on the needs of the student. If the student would like to focus on grammar then the material should be sent beforehand so I can have a chance to look at it and prepare for any questions that may arise. If the student would like to focus on spelling and/or spoken English then no material should be sent beforehand, just an overview of the request. If the student would like to focus on reading I'll supply the materials depending on their level. As for math, I only teach high school students and first year University students. The material for the class should be sent to me beforehand so I can be better prepared to answer any questions.

French Baccalaureate for first grade: Revision, preparation of files and oral training
The French baccalaureate is the first important test for a high school student, it is therefore a question of preparing them to learn but above all to understand; the era of rote learning is a bit over, you now have to show the examiner that you have understood the work and that you can talk about it "naturally". Preparation is therefore essential, the work must be mastered and stress managed on the day of the test. If you would like to help the future high school graduate, I offer revision and preparation courses for the French baccalaureate and baccalaureate. Feel free to contact me for more information
