Chinese is one of the world’s most widely spoken languages, essential for daily communication, travel, and cultural connection. This course is designed to build your Chinese skills across speaking, reading, and writing from the ground up, with tailored guidance for every skill level.
You’ll learn to hold natural conversations on daily topics (like greetings, food, and travel), read simple texts (such as menus, signs, and short stories), and write basic sentences, paragraphs, and personal notes. We’ll break down Chinese characters, Pinyin pronunciation, and grammar rules in a practical, easy-to-follow way—no prior experience needed! By the end of the course, you’ll gain the confidence to use Chinese in real-life situations, whether you’re a beginner starting with your first words or an advanced learner looking to refine your fluency.
What makes this course unique? I have 4.5 years of volunteer guiding experience at the Art and Archaeology Museum of Zhejiang University (awarded one of the "Top 10 Outstanding Volunteers"), have taken part in many poetry recitation performances, and have studied Chinese calligraphy in depth. I’ll weave fascinating elements of Chinese traditional culture—such as ancient art, archaeology, folk customs, historical stories, classical poetry and calligraphy art—into every lesson. Whether we’re learning basic vocabulary or complex sentences, you’ll not only master Chinese language skills but also gain deep insights into the cultural context behind the words, and even learn to appreciate and recite Chinese poetry beautifully as well as understand the charm of Chinese character writing. It will make your Chinese learning journey both meaningful and engaging.
Tailored for beginners & intermediates: master shakuhachi basics (holding, breath control, simple melodies) with cultural context, or refine breath dynamics, fingerings & musical expression for longer pieces (personalized guidance included). I hold ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory (Distinction) and Chinese music certificates (Piano 6, Violin 6, Accordion 4), plus choir/string orchestra experience—able to teach music theory systematically and guide ensemble teamwork for shakuhachi learners
