I started playing the harmonica around 2018. I taught myself through countless online tutorials and videos from some well-known harmonica players: Adam Gussow, David Barrett, Indiara Sfair, Will Wilde, Joe Filisko, Dennis Gruenling, and Jason Ricci. Their playing and teaching styles inspired me to delve deeper into the instrument.
After a few years of self-study, I decided to take some personal lessons with Olivier Vander Bauwede, a very talented Belgian harmonica player. He introduced me to the lively blues jam sessions 💃 at the Missy Sippy blues bar in Ghent, Belgium, which quickly led to other jam sessions in Kortrijk and beyond. I still regularly attend these jam sessions, which are a great place to meet other musicians and grow as a musician. Over time, I've had the opportunity to perform as a guest artist at various events, including house concerts (for example, with Malvin Moskalez) and a few weddings.
I also participate in the online harmonica challenges that Konstantin Reinfeld (a fantastic German harmonica player) organizes via Discord and Twitch. It's a fun and motivating way to stay engaged—and occasionally win cool prizes, like a new harmonica! I've also taken a few online lessons with Konstantin.
Musically, I'm active in several projects. Currently, I perform with guitarist Mathieu as the duo Seelien & Maco, playing pop, soft rock, and blues covers at festivals and private parties, or sometimes just out on the street. We've also been selected as city artists for Kortrijk and Ghent.
I'm also part of a blues duo with guitarist Idriss, which focuses on the classic blues repertoire.
I recently started rehearsing with a new blues and soul band, Hot Corn Dip. They have gigs scheduled for 2026.
In 2024, I attended the Hohner Masters Workshops in Trossingen, Germany, and took a workshop with Joe Filisko—an unforgettable experience. I had the chance to see many incredible harmonica players up close, including Steve Baker, Joel Andersson, Bonny B., and others. The atmosphere and the community were truly inspiring. One of the highlights was sharing the stage with the fantastic Belgian harmonica player Steven Troch. We also got a tour of the Hohner factory.
Over the past year, I've further broadened my musical foundation with lessons in music theory and vocals. I already had some knowledge of music theory from my childhood, when I played the flute, and it felt good to pick it up again. I also attended an Ableton Live workshop to learn more about music production and recording.
Because I am always open to new ideas, I was asked by Sarah Saputri, a wonderful Indonesian harmonica player, to give an online harmonica workshop for her students.
So far I have been interviewed three times about harmonica/projects, including once for a trade magazine through my work.
