Über mich
Scarlett, (She/Her b.1982, UK)

Scarlett is a multi-disciplinary creative who has fostered partnerships with a variety of reputable brands, institutions, and educational establishments. Having completed her Masters in Global Cultural and Creative Industries at the School of Oriental and African Studies, she specializes in project managing creative strategies focused on co-creating with inner city communities across the UK.

Her personal work includes sculptural, print, drawn, and audio work that examines the semiotics of race and class by creating images that interrogate power structures by portraying narratives of the under-represented. To mark the introduction of the Race Relations Acts the Houses of Parliament commissioned artist Scarlett to undertake a residency to create work with communities across the UK that were impacted by the introduction of the early race discrimination legislation. This culminated in an exhibition at Westminster Palace in early 2019.

In her role as educator, she worked with pupil referral units, the long-term unemployed, male and female young offenders and girls affected by gender violence. She has facilitated for organizations such as the Dulwich Picture Gallery and AfroPunk and given talks for the London Arts Fair, the National Photography Symposium, and BBC Radio 4. In 2019, she worked with NTS Radio for Top Boy and Netflix. In 2020 for the Barbican and Museum of London on the Cultural Mile project, and Netflix and more recently with the Jordan brand on their first Black History Season in the UK in 2021.

Johannes
Lesson Overview

Who: Johannes – Brand owner and Central Saint Martins graduate with experience in celebrity dressing and industry experience in luxury couture houses

Techniques & methodology: Practice-led, studio-based teaching combining draping on the body, pattern making, sewing, and portfolio development, tailored to individual goals

Lesson length: Typically 90 minutes, allowing time for hands-on making, discussion, and feedback

Who the lessons are for: Students aged 16+, including foundation, BA, and MA applicants, as well as early-career designers seeking portfolio refinement or industry insight

Languages: English and German

Focus: University applications, professional portfolios, technical development, and understanding industry expectations

I am the founder of the fashion brand Johannes and an actively practising designer, bringing an industry-focused approach to teaching. I support students in developing strong, competitive portfolios for university applications and professional roles, with clear guidance on concept development, editing, and presentation aligned with current academic and industry expectations.

My professional work includes designing and dressing international artists such as Björk, Lady Gaga, Grimes, Kylie Jenner, Megan Thee Stallion, Rina Sawayama, and Post Malone for performances, editorials, and public appearances. This experience gives students direct insight into professional standards, timelines, and the realities of working under pressure within the fashion industry. My technical foundation is shaped by experience in couture and luxury fashion environments including Viktor&Rolf, Givenchy, Balmain, and bespoke tailoring ateliers.

My teaching covers draping, pattern making, sewing, and hand-based construction techniques, with a strong focus on fit, proportion, and translating ideas into technically resolved garments. I offer targeted guidance on what universities are looking for at foundation, BA, and MA level: from creative curiosity and process at foundation stage, to technical skill, concept development, and visual clarity at BA level, through to research depth, authorship, and critical positioning at MA level. I work closely with students to ensure their portfolios clearly communicate both creative identity and readiness for academic or professional progression. I am fluent in German and, with formal training in painting, can also support students in developing visual research, composition, and fine art–led portfolio work where relevant.
