I am a qualified, experienced and creative UK teacher (Bachelor of Education) with a Certificate in Filmmaking and Animation. I have been an International teacher for the last fifteen years, working in Spain, Thailand, Prague and now The Hague. Literacy is not just about the written word. Film can make a central contribution to children and young people's educational and cultural development, support curriculum learning, foster a range of skills and engender understanding.
Children will learn authentic filmmaking skills and techniques. These will be embedded within a scheme of work using a creative and thematic approach with Film, Art and Literacy at its core. Children will have the opportunity to critique, review and make films and will learn about the five stages of developing, planning, producing and exhibiting a movie. They will learn about: Basic Equipment Needs*Storyboarding and Screenwriting* iPad and Video Camera Training* Acting* Animation*Directing* Sound, Lighting and Editing Techniques*Set Construction and Props*Makeup and Hair*Costuming*The Shoot* Publicity*Marketing our Movie*The Premiere*

I offer online or face-to-face English lessons to non-native speakers. I work with the student to identify learning objectives and any areas of weakness and tailor the lesson accordingly. Areas covered during the lesson include, speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar accent reduction.
I currently live in Den Haag, The Netherlands. In addition to private coaching, I also work for an online ESL company delivering English lessons to children across a range of age groups. In addition, I also work as an ESL proofreader and IELTS private tutor here in The Hague. I hold a BA (Hons) degree and have a CELTA qualification. Prior to a career in ESL English teaching, I worked in the UK national press for the Times and Financial Times newspapers. It was there I developed my proofreading and communications skills.
In my spare time, I write articles for magazines and have had feature stories published in The Telegraph magazine, The Daily Mail and a number of health magazines. I have also written two language books. The first, 'I Already Speak Speak French!' is an illustrated book for children that covers the etymology of many English words to their French origin (attached is a sample of it for your interest!). It has been translated for the French market into, 'I Already Speak English!' The second book is called, 'Learn Business English FAST!' which draws on a teaching methodology used for effective, fast learning that I used whilst teaching English for the international company, GoFluent.

If you want to improve your English grammar, vocabulary, fluency and pronunciation, you might want a tutor! I am available for you, your relative or your friend online and in Den Haag. I teach adults of all levels and ages, including seniors.

I'm Tom, and I've been teaching English since 2013. Originally I'm from the south of England, and I've been happily living in the Hague since 2021. Before this I lived in Taiwan and mainland China. I speak a bunch of languages besides English, like Mandarin, Finnish, some French, and a little Japanese – and now of course I'm learning Dutch!

⭐ English for Adults of All Levels and Ages

My classes are light-hearted, relaxed and always interactive. People learn best when they’re enjoying themselves and feeling deeply interested, and that is my promise to you. I will correct your mistakes, but I will never shame or embarrass you for making them. My class is a place where people come to feel good and grow confidence.

You can decide what you want to do in our class. Tell me in advance, and I'll spend time preparing interesting materials. For example:

• conversations with feedback and corrections (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation)
• help with reading and writing
• understand and practise grammar
• learn idioms and natural language with context
• prepare you for visits abroad or conversations with foreigners
• creative activities like games

I'll teach you the differences between formal and informal phrases so that you use them in the right situations. For example, some Dutch people don't know this, but when you want to say "moeten", in English we usually don't say "must". That meaning of "must" is very formal and uncommon in modern spoken English. Instead, say "have to". In 1965, the Queen said "I must go to the lavatory". Everyone else in the 21st century said "I have to go to the toilet."

❗ Very importantly, I will also help you learn how to study on your own.

I know you won't be my student forever, so I want to prepare you for the future. If you hope to get good at English, it's not enough just to have a tutor once a week – the more time you put into learning English, the better and faster you'll get. I can show you how to easily make digital flashcards, write memorable notes, and use AI properly to teach you English. This way you can also keep learning after our course ends.
