Creative writing for all - begin or continue your journey

If you are serious about writing, it needs to be worked on in conversation with others, as well as on your own. You may have written for a long time, or just be taking a first step to find a safe environment to share your work with someone else. Writing can be such an enriching practice (which may even transform your life), but this doesn't mean it is easy or fulfilling all the way. There are bumps and blocks and tensions... one great way through them is to start to build a community... a good place to start can be to find someone to guide the process of writing and finding ways to support your creativity. I can also signpost to places to go and can guide you to group opportunities and communities, whatever your means.

I am a published poet and fiction writer and have worked as a writing tutor for 5 years. I have an MA in Creative Writing and am studying towards a PhD. I work as a writing mentor for poets and writers from many different backgrounds.

My particular interest is in poetry and prose which explore themes of urban experience and modern life. I also work as a researcher in community arts and give talks on creative writing, film, geography and literature.

من أنا؟

My name is Simon. I live in South London and work as a poet, writer, writing tutor and researcher in community arts. I work as a writing mentor with Write to Life, based at the charity Freedom from Torture. I am also an experienced gardener, am passionate about cooking and I'm a devoted Crystal Palace fan. I have degrees in Philosophy from Leeds, an MSc in Urban Geography from King's College London, as well as an MA in Creative Writing from Westminster University. I am working on a novel and a collection of poetry. I am a member of a writing collective in Bangalore, India and I writing colleagues and collaborators in France, Belgium and Germany. I also act and write with the neighbourhood theatre at the Young Vic in London.
