Do you want to learn how to compose your own music? Do you want to be able to express yourself and put your own thoughts in musical form? In this Classical Composition or Songwriting class, that's exactly what we'll be focusing on! You can choose to focus on composing classical music, using scores, or creating your own songs, either for you or other people to sing. You will learn music theory, learn how to use music software like reaper, ableton, sibelius or musescore, and you'll work alongside me to discover your own voice in music making.

My name is Bernardo and I am a composer from Portugal who specializes and studies contemporary classical music. I also create my own songs in a singer-songwriter style and I have made music for film and videogame.
I am currently doing a master's in Composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp where I study with Wim Henderickx. I have studied in the past with composers such as Luís Tinoco, Carlos Caires and Eurico Carrapatoso.
My works have been played in several European concert halls and I have in my portfolio works for solo instruments, chamber ensembles, orchestra and choir.

I am also currently doing a bachelor's in singing at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, so if you are a singer-songwriter, we can also work on your own voice.

My name is Bernardo I come from Lisbon, Portugal. I am currently a master's student of composition in the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. I started learning music and to play the piano when I was 5 years old and since then I am in love with what I do.
I want to share my enthusiasm with my students and help them achieve their goals of learning and becoming better musicians. As a teacher, I believe it is important to listen to your students and find an approach that works well with their characteristics.

Education

Bachelor's in Composition st thé Lisbon Higher School of Music concluded in 2019.

Master's in Composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp.

Currently doing a Bachelor's in Singing at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp.

SONGS generally consist of chord and text lines. But where does that information come from and how do you make something out of nothing? How do you make that one great hIT or how strongly does your new song affect your love? Well, that's called "inspiration processing" and how does that work? Well, I'll tell you that in my course.
If you already play the guitar or piano, you are one step ahead. Your instrument is like a trampoline that offers you more options to go further and higher.
Most 'songs' are born at the craziest moments. A good songwriter his / her antennas are always open :-) and for some it is a continuous activity.
During my course I teach you through all sorts of tips and tricks (including: Travel Chord Duo Method - One Four Five and minor input - Key Word Designation and Relative Chord Progressions etc.) how you can achieve strong songs.
For me it is a daily activity and I have been writing all my life for others and sometimes for myself. All in all I have sold more than a million copies worldwide as an author / composer / performer. Is that little or is that a lot? I do not know. It doesn't interest me that much anymore.
I want to share my knowledge about how to write a song with motivated people who want to go further than just replaying others' songs. Whether they get stuck somewhere during composing and who are not afraid to seek advice.
Music is a life flirt. There are only two types of music: good and bad ...
Do you have a foundation of chords, do you want to know how to make a good song .....? Just book an hour to get started. That is the scan hour. Are we lying together and is there a click? If you book and I confirm, then you also know who I am and where I hide :-) Not satisfied after the first 'lesson'?

Whether you are an absolute beginner or an advanced guitarist, together we map out your personal trajectory. Would you like to play classical pieces, learn more pop songs or improvise? That's all possible!

After my classical guitar studies at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, I started to specialize in music pedagogy with a specific focus on instrumental learning by ear and creative music making. Because of my insight into musical learning, I can adapt my lessons to your level and your preferences. I also have experience with various musical styles, so I'm flexible in that too!

Lessons take place at my home in Antwerp, but on location is also possible (subject to a fee and only for lessons of 1 hour).
