I'm a Portuguese Singer-Actress and Vocal Coach currently based in Copenhagen. I have a BA in Musical Theatre by the Institute of the Arts Barcelona, awarded by the Liverpool John Moores University (UK).

I am certified as a Vocal Health First Aider by The Vocal Health Education (UK) and also completed their course in Teaching Inclusively to learn more about inclusivity when working as a singing teacher with persons with special needs and disabilities. I believe everyone should feel welcomed to do what they love in a safe, respectful, personalized and happy environment. Adaptability is key in my practice!

And I'm also trained in Conscious Singing with Fernanda Lopes (Brazil), focused on Vocal Science and Anatomy and how it can be applied to the singing voice with clear and safe strategies for Vocal Pedagogy and Performance. Some of the things will be working on are:

I'm a very curious and creative person, probably the reason why I ended up training in Singing, Acting and Dancing in Musical Theatre.

I'm also a holistic person, which means that I focus a lot of my teaching in making sure that I 'see' the human I'm teaching and not just the voice I'm hearing. I like to take the time to connect with my students and get to know them (their goals, their hobbies, their favorite artists) in order to serve them better.

It is important to establish a mutual respect and close (yet professional!) relationship with people in order to build trust, and a sense of safety. Only then, we can work on exploring creativity with freedom and without any fear of judgment or insecurities.

As people often say (and I totally agree!): we have to allow ourselves to be bad at something first, so we can actually be good at it later. Being creative and training our voices is the same process. But we'll make it a fun experience with lots of smiling and words of encouragement! And we'll celebrate with full excitement when a goal is achieved!

Our voices are one of the most powerful tools we have to communicate and be ourselves. It is my absolute pleasure and honor to help my students to own their voices! To sing with freedom and happiness. And to open their hearts to creativity!

I finished my BA with a First Class Honors degree in Musical Theatre at IAB.

I'm also a Reiki Master with a decade of practice. I bring a holistic approach to my teaching. A mindful and conscious practice will promote a better flow of creativity. It will reduce stress and tension, reduce performance anxiety, and improve the performer's health (better sleep, + breath control, + focus, etc.) and their overall performance delivery.

I've been a Professional Performer since 2015 and a Teacher since 2020. I've done several musicals and plays and performed in many venues in Portugal and Spain. I've also worked as a guest entertainer, children's entertainer, and vocal captain for musical theatre productions. As a teacher, my experience covers teaching musical theatre for kids and teens aged 5-16 in different academies in Portugal as well as a private singing and acting teacher both in-person and online.

Your body is your instrument when singing. We try to make that instrument sound as beautiful as possible by working on sound formation. This allows the vocal cords to move more freely, so that you get tired less quickly when singing. Your voice becomes fuller and you can sing higher and lower notes.

During the singing lessons we also work on articulation, the pronunciation of foreign languages and also on the meaning of and your feelings about a particular piece. Of course you decide what kind of music you will sing. Whether you sing alone in the shower or whether you are in a choir and encounter certain difficulties in general or with a specific piece? Please feel free to bring your choir part to class and we will see together how we can make this easier for you. We work on repertoire that you love. We can also make a journey of discovery together to your favorite music.

WHO CAN LEARN TO SING?
Everyone can learn to sing. Because of the singing lessons you will notice that singing becomes easier. Moreover, singing is good for relaxation, both of body and mind. Singing is just enjoying!

YOUR OWN INSTRUMENT
As a singer you already have one advantage over instrumentalists: you do not have to buy an (expensive) instrument. You always have your instrument with you, but... you have to take good care of your instrument!

My name is Carmen and I am an opera singer. I studied at the PI Chaykovsky Conservatory in Moscow and the famous Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. I attended many masterclasses in Russia, Italy and Austria with Edda Moser, Renata Scotto, Nino Machaidze etc. I was also a soloist in the Vatican Choir.

For several years, I have been working as a singing teacher in Brussels. I offer courses in English, French, Russian and Italian. I teach children from 6 years old (beginners or more experienced). I offer a wide variety of breathing and singing techniques.

No, we don't think that being able to sing is absolutely necessary for actors. Not every actor or actress has the ambition to appear in a musical and not every series or film features singing. Still, vocal coaching is a good idea... whether you want to learn to sing or not!

With your course fee you can participate in any of our courses whenever you want. This way you can not only learn to act, but also taste our courses in debate and presentation techniques (our TV course), communication, singing, improvisation, 'physical acting', lie detection, hypnosis, directing, or writing! Of course, the following applies: the more you follow 1 particular course, the faster you progress.

Anyone who has ambitions as a singer or who wants to expand his or her skills to make it easier to land a role will soon end up taking singing lessons... but also those who have no intention of ever performing songs. can benefit greatly from vocal coaching.

You often have to be on set for a long time and then it is important to use your voice properly, so that it does not get tired and you can speak as powerfully after hours of recording as before. Finally, it is very useful to be able to put different effects on your voice. Just think of the raspy character of Gollum in The Lord of the Rings, the barking explanations of Samson, the full voice of Kabouter Plop or the grunted insults exchanged in The Chronicles of Sabrina. Judiciously used voice effects can not only add color to characters, they are sometimes essential or almost automatically arise from emotional moments. So being able to use them correctly and maintain control over them without damaging your vocal cords is essential.

What you learn

As is the case with almost all of our courses, we teach you techniques from different approaches. For our singing lessons, these are Speech Level Singing (SLS), Estill Voice Training (EVT) and Complete Vocal Technique (CVT).

Here are some things that will pass in review:

• The larynx, lips, and other organs that help control voice production
• Add necessary twang

• Different vocal modes (with CVT): neutral, curbing, overdrive and edge.

As an Italian Opera singer, I help since many years singers with the right pronunciation of the repertoire they sing, helping them in shaping the language in a clear way, which also helps the singing.

Our lesson will involve speaking, pronunciation exercises and singing.
We will start the lesson by reading the text and finding the right direction and emphasis.
We will focus on the sounds and how to produce them.

Singing in French is no easy task, but as a native speaker and opera singer, I can help you!

We work on pronunciation together, first working on spoken text: getting acquainted with the French sounds and accent and working on how to make sure it sounds French even to a native French! When that's working well, we apply it to the singing.
If you want to practice on your own, I can record the text for you.
I can also help with you with the translation of a piece or questions you may have about a certain word, a saying or the subtext of a piece.
