Hi my name is Raphael, I am a professional violin and viola teacher based in Berlin. I have over 5 years of teaching experience at all levels. I mainly teach in english, but have a basic understanding of german and am fluent in hebrew.

As a teacher my training began under the great pedagogy Professor Ida Bieler in the Vivaldi program, which was the winner of the Top Education award of Germany.
I taught in this capacity for over 4 years and also became Prof. Bieler's teaching assistant, teaching violin at a university level.

As a performer I often freelance with major orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London and the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle in the US. I play in a variety of ensembles, and collaborate often on performances with dancers. Recent prizes have included the Bruno Frey Prize of Southern Germany, and 1st prize at the MTNA competition in the US.

It is a real passion of mine to watch and help students develop on their instrument and discover the joys of music. Alongside the musical side I am very confident in my ability to help with the setup and technical aspects of the instrument. These aspects can often be the hardest to overcome in the beginning and I believe that it is an integrsal part of being able to play well.

I give violin lessons at home, for students of all levels and ages.
I constantly adapt my teaching according to the expectations and objectives of the student, so the technical work that allows to acquire a better ease with the instrument will always be directed towards a musical research and the pleasure of playing music

I'm a professional viola and violin teacher, teaching in person and online, in English, German or Russian.

As well as instrumental teaching and ensemble coaching of all ages and levels over the last 12 years, I’ve led numerous professional workshops, including ‘Music First’ and ‘Music Masters’ in London and have taught on the Senior and Primary Arpeggione Viola Courses. As a member of the European String Teachers’ Association, I participated in their conferences across Europe, including at the European Parliament in 2018.

I also prepare students for music exams, auditions and competitions at all levels, and work with them on music theory, aural and sight reading skills, and can accompany them the piano.

Alongside my teaching I perform internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, including at Kings Place London, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and Philharmonie Berlin. I'm an avid chamber musician, and am a founding member of Ensemble Textura, a string ensemble based in Berlin, performing renowned works alongside experimental arrangements and lesser known masterpieces. I've also performed with Tabea Zimmermann at the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Gary Hoffman and Antje Weithaas at Kronberg Academy’s ‘Chamber Music Connects the World’, with Claudio Martínez Mehner at Encuentro de Santander, and regularly participate in the Open Chamber Music Seminar at Prussia Cove.
