Awarded in many International Competitions such as the International Berliner Music Competition, the Debussy Competition in Paris, or the Carl Nielsen Competition in Copenhagen, I have to perform in concert and give master classes around the world, or even to perform as a soloist in halls such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Champs Elysées Theater, or even at Suntory Hall in Tokyo. In addition, I am currently a clarinetist with the Republican Guard Orchestra. Passionate about teaching, many of my students have prestigious schools (CNSM de Paris) or Orchestras. I give courses from beginner to high level.

The clarinet is a beautiful instrument. I've been playing it for 10 years now and I never get tired of it! Today, I would like to share this passion with you through private lessons for beginner, intermediate or advanced clarinetists.

My lessons are aimed at everyone: beginners discovering the clarinet, more advanced instrumentalists wishing to prepare for auditions, exams or competitions or simply to have support in addition to their teacher. I was trained by the great teachers of the French clarinet school and wish to convey the commitment and demands of the latter, while offering openness and support adapted to each student. The axes which seem essential to me are first of all a development of the ear, which involves the search for a rich and warm clarinet sound, which makes the student want to play with pleasure, but also a rhythmic base solid that allows the student to play in an ensemble, whether chamber music or orchestra. This rhythmic base can be reinforced by the addition of music theory lessons within the clarinet course. I want each student to feel listened to, in a studious but fun atmosphere.

Clarinet classes are made of two main parts : - one part to warm up (scales, games, breathing...) - another part about instrumental technicality (mouthpiece position, fingering, rightness...) The first part is dedicated to one particular technique at a time (legato, pizzicato, rhythm...). The second one consists of studying one piece from classical, jazz or klezmer repertory. Student and teacher will be able to play duets together. You are free to submit any piece/score you would like to play.

I am a professional clarinetist myself, graduated from the Royal College of Music in London (Global No. 1 Institution for Performing Arts). I am currently pursuing my concert career between Paris and London. Between us the choice to become a clarinetist is admit the original! But why this instrument rather than another? I was hesitant myself when I started. I found the sax.. “cooler”. But I finally fell in love with the clarinet. This instrument offers an incredible variety of repertoire! First of all Classical Music: The clarinet developed at the same time as Mozart. The composer was immediately seduced by this new instrument with its soft, pearly sound; he fell in love with her and wrote a magnificent concerto for her (one of the most beautiful ;)). Subsequently, composers such as Weber, Schumann and Brahms will deploy all their knowledge and sensitivity to make the clarinet sing. Jazz: Since the appearance of this new genre, the clarinet reigns as a diva among instruments. Gershwin dedicated a legendary solo to him in “Rhapsody in Blue”. The instrument shines with this effect of its own: the glissando (sliding from one note to another in a progressive and continuous manner). I have been teaching for 6 years now and enjoy sharing my passion for music on stage as much as in a more intimate setting during a private lesson. Learning an instrument can be long and tedious and the approach of some conservatory teachers is sometimes abrupt and academic. For my part, I favor a playful teaching adapting to the capacities of each one. My experience as a concert performer in the Jazz/Klezmer group Kanaï Trio, of which I am the founding member, offers me the possibility of extending my teaching to improvisation and to different musical styles (Jazz, Traditional Yiddish/Klezmer Music, Eastern Europe, the Balkans). My classical music studies at the Conservatoire Régional de Paris allowed me to develop my instrumental technique but also my knowledge of musical analysis, music theory, singing and music history. I consider these theoretical fundamentals essential to the study of an instrument. The student must above all understand the music before being able to flourish in the interpretation of the piece. One of the common difficulties for beginners or intermediate students is not being able to manage the air well, running out of steam quickly and thus losing the pleasure of performing an entire piece. In reality, the clarinet does not require the endurance of a marathon runner, but just an appropriate breathing technique: I have therefore developed a method based on breathing exercises, the search for good posture (specific to each pupil) and physical relaxation (with the elimination of tensions and parasitic gestures). The student will also have simple and effective technical tools to quickly overcome difficulties (placement of the mouthpiece, precise positioning of the fingers, etc.). I am a passionate and dedicated music teacher who focuses on helping my students achieve their goals. My style of teaching aims to make a student feel comfortable with their instrument, no matter their starting level. We will explore the parts of the clarinet, proper maintenance, reading sheet music, practice routines, and much more. I work with the student to find music they will love to play. Various genres of music may be studied, including pop, rock, jazz, and classical music. Students may also choose whether to focus solely on the clarinet or expand into more concepts in music theory. Music education is my passion, which I love to share with my students. I want to create a nurturing learning environment together to enhance your experience. Lessons can be in my home or through Zoom. Chris is a New York City-based multi-instrumentalist. A passionate composer and improviser, he has performed as a leader and sideman throughout New York, Boston, Colorado and abroad over the past 15 years. Chris attended the Manhattan School of Music (MM ‘25) and the New England Conservatory of Music (BM ‘23). He has taught privately and within public schools over the past eight years, and loves to help students cultivate their passion for music and instrumental performance. Students can choose to focus entirely on their instrument (saxophone, clarinet, and flute), or can specifically study improvisation, jazz composition, music theory, and ear training. While primarily a jazz musician, Chris is trained in a wide variety of musics including classical, which he diligently studied on the clarinet; popular music and R&B; and world musics, including Brazilian (Choro/Bossa/Samba), Latin-American (Bomba/Timba/Rumba), and West-African styles (Agbekor/Gahu). Some of Chris's many accomplishments include being recognized as a YoungArts Jazz Performance winner for four years in a row; performing abroad in Europe with the inaugural NYO Jazz Band, receiving a Community Performances and Partnerships Ensemble Fellowship at New England Conservatory, and also receiving the George Whitefield Chadwick Medal of musical and academic performance. Chris emphasizes a teaching approach that prioritizes connecting with the student and engaging them in what they’re specifically interested in, while also covering the fundamentals essential to developing ones skills on their instrument or in their field of study. He offers lessons in person, primarily at students's personal residences, and also online via Zoom, Google Meet, or FaceTime (although in person is highly recommended).

In the classes we will address the different elements that make up music in different styles, knowing the particular language of each one. To do this, we will work on the different tools that we have with each instrument at the level at which each one is. We all know music but many times they make us believe that no, that it is necessary to know how to read and write. That is the graphic part of the language that we will learn little by little, music is a compendium of many other things. Some that we already know and others to know. We will study the use of the keys and the positions of the clarinet, or the sax, the best way to position ourselves whether we play standing or sitting, the most efficient way to use the air, the diaphragm, the muscles. We will learn to form a good embouchure and we will develop a study method adapted to each one, according to their tastes, possibilities and interests. I work with boys and girls from different parts of the world as well as with adults and the elderly. In my experience I learned that, truly, the greatest limitation that we find ourselves is the very feeling of not being able, of believing that we cannot. The support of a dedicated teacher is essential to get out of those places where we accidentally enter and that sometimes limit us. We all feel that sometime. It is time for us to remedy it. I believe that with a beautiful and personal sound you are able at every level to transmit emotion and meaning, it doesn’t matter the difficulty or the level. So I try to focus first on awareness of what’s beautiful for the student and what’s not. Then through technique and repertoire (suggestions of the student or suggestions of mine that can help to grow the student curiosity), we develop the student knowledge. Always helping the student to understand -depending on his/her the theoretical level- what we are doing, putting together music and theory. And giving tools to expand the border, at all levels. I have knowledge and experience in Jazz, Classical, Klezmer, Choro Music and Improvisation. You just need a precious element! • Music Theory I focus on having a good basics, spending as much as we need to understand every single thing, because then with times it becomes more easy. I try to help the student simplifying the material because then, we only with ourselves with a good procedure of the basics to solve any problem. Only with one lesson, you will understand what I mean. I have experience in preparing students for exams, the ones for the semester as well as any official exam; doesn't matter if you have an intermediate theory level and you want to improve, or if you would like to be stronger solidifying the knowledge you have (which is always the best option), or if you don’t know anything about notes and music concepts and you would like to be familiar with them. Maybe you are an adult who always wanted to improvise but doesn’t know where to start...? The only thing you need is a good organization -which I can provide- to reach any goal!

Clarinet lessons at all levels: from absolute beginners to advanced players. For me as a teacher it is very important to start from the wishes, needs and competences of the student himself.
