With my classes, not only will you learn to play with ease, you will also be able to crack the code of music, so you will understand how notes, chords, rhythm and music theory relate to each other. You will no longer be simply playing through mindless memorization or repetition. You will also learn how to listen to yourself and recognize when you have played well, and when you have made mistakes. Although I am classically trained, I started guitar playing rhythmic music, such as nirvana and the beatles, and I still have a deep understanding of the style and have taught it for years. I aim to teach guitar the right way, without taking short cuts that limit knowledge and development later on. I have a personalised approach to each student, refusing to force them to play exactly as I do, but helping them to refine their own innate technique. To that end, I create my own exercises for my students, compiling the best from the existing literature, and am working to creating my own guitar method book. These lessons are for young and/or inexperienced singers. My lesson plans are tailored towards students' individual goals. For some, this may be learning and embodying an audition song for their school's upcoming theater performance, and for others voice lessons are a first step towards singing healthily in their church choir. In any case, I focus on correcting and building core skills necessary to singing one's best while encouraging and fostering creativity, accountability, and motivation. If considered for a long-term journey towards singing, I will focus particularly on classical techniques to build steady breath control, good posture, and proper vowel and consonant formation. Along with providing repertoire, if the student is ready and wants, there will be opportunities for vocal performance in the Santa Cruz area. I will encourage audio recordings in all lessons to help with future preparations. I will be assigning some homework after every lesson, likely a combination of vocalization exercises, dedicated sheet music practice, and theory homework (if needed). *My first lesson will involve getting to know the student, their goals, and some vocalization to assess vocal level. For singers with minimal/no prior foundational music theory knowledge, I may recommend time from lessons (15-30 minutes) being allocated solely towards foundational music theory learning.

In this class, you will decide what you want to learn, and I will give you lessons and homework based on that, your skill level, and your preferred genre group (western classical or contemporary).

Hey! My name is Richard and I give private lessons to all levels. For guitar, it is important that you can improve yourself in a pleasant environment in a fun way where your interests are central. Do you want to delve deeper into a certain style? Do you want to create your own sound on your guitar using amps, and pedals, ...? I can help you with all that! Knowledge of solfège or music theory is not required, we can always discuss this in class if you wish, but that is certainly not mandatory ;) I have been playing the guitar since I was 9 years old and for several years now I have been playing in professional bands with which I have been able to play on sugar rock, for example. The lessons would take place at my home in Mol or via webcam. If necessary, we can always agree on something else. Experienced teacher of Oud and oriental Arabic singing for over 11 years, I am Lebanese and currently residing in Germany. I studied for 8 years at the Lebanese National Conservatory. I taught at the Casa Beethoven Academy in Lebanon and gave private lessons. In addition, I was conductor of the Loubnan Assalam oriental orchestra for over 5 years. My recommendation for learning the Oud is to start with the study of notes and musical notation before tackling pieces. Although some students prefer to play songs directly, understanding the basics of musical notation allows for faster progress in the long run.
