Présentation
I am a mother of three university students who grew up with me dragging them to museums and cultural events all over the world and who now - as a result - seek those experiences out themselves!
After secondary school I read psychology at university but never truly loved it (although I duly finished it) and so it was a great luxury to be able to first take classes in art history and later go back to university to study a subject which I had enjoyed since my years at school.
The enjoyment you can get out of a holiday or a visit to a gallery is so much greater knowing why or what or when and I love enjoying art with others simply because every one brings something different to the experience.
The French Belle Epoque writer (who himself was rather obsessed with the fine arts) said it best: “It is only through art that we can escape from ourselves and know how another person sees a universe which is not the same as our own.."

Do you love Italian people, history, and food and you would like to speak the language?
I am a CEDILS-certified Italian teacher born and raised in Florence, and I've also been a language student myself for a long time! If you want to be able to interact with Italians quickly, I can give you some tips about correct pronunciation, fundamental grammar, and vocabulary, but also Italian art and popular culture, which I think is fundamental to understanding the mentality and the country that you are going to interact with.
Lessons will be tailored according to the student's needs, level, and mother language and focused on the conversation.

I am also available to proofread your writings.

- Art History courses are intended for all audiences and all levels.
From Pre-History to Contemporary Art, teaching of artistic trends and pictorial techniques.

- The History of the Art Market courses are more intended for people interested in the functioning of cultural structures (museum, fair, gallery, private collections, etc.) and in the economics of the market (auctions , fairs, international markets, ...).

- The cultural mediator is responsible for welcoming the public in a cultural structure, his mission is to present artistic works or actions by providing keys to understanding. It awakens the interest of the visitor by creating a dialogue around the artist, his message, the conditions of realization of the work, etc. This requires solid knowledge of Art History, and oral fluency.

- The techniques of conservation and restoration of works of art are studied in a few sessions. They require basic knowledge of materials, supports and techniques.

History is the vector that allows us to better understand our society, the world in which we live. It is essential for general culture. The level of the course will adapt to the level of the student, from primary to university. It is also possible to adapt it in relation to an exam or competition to be taken, or to a person wishing to complete their general knowledge on a particular subject.

The form of the lessons adapts to the specific requests, needs and problems of the student.

It may include one or more of the following:
- help with homework
- proofreading/corrections of written work
- revisions for exams, essays, courses
- help with presentations, talks etc.
- learning English through exercises and/or conversations

I also generally help with:
- organization of a work / review plan, with creation of a calendar, division of labor etc.
- memorization: different techniques and advice
- the methodology: how to be efficient in your work and in your reading, how to take good notes etc.
- concentration and stress management
- general advice

My studies at university allow me to have access to rare and useful resources for learning English, which can enrich the courses. They also helped me to be more efficient in researching and citing useful sources for courses, dissertations, presentations etc.

Lessons can be given at the student's home, in a municipal library, in a UNIGE building, or by webcam (for example via Jitsi, which is free, practical, and has always worked well with my students).

My name is Dominique, I am a qualified teacher in visual and plastic arts and a Doctor in Art History. Art in its many forms is a passion for me and I am delighted to share this passion online or in person with you.
I have 20 years of experience in the field of plastic and visual arts, having taught this subject for more than twenty years and having trained students in university artistic studies. I also have a Doctorate in Art History from the Montpellier Academy and I have a cutting, sewing and pattern making certificate and a French Foreign Language (FLE) diploma.
I consider that theory and artistic practice nourish each other. Over the years, I have worked with students of different levels and witnessed their artistic progress which represents a constant source of inspiration.
My main goal is to create a learning environment where you will feel encouraged to express your creativity, explore new techniques and develop your own style. My experience has shown that each student has a unique potential that deserves to be developed. I firmly believe that art is a form of personal communication and I am here to guide you on this journey. We will work with mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, but also collage, monoprint and much more. You will also have the opportunity to study and appreciate the works of famous artists, while developing your own projects.
