I am a passionate English Literature student at the University of Kent with years of Creative Writing experience. I've studied writing at the University of Amsterdam, have written and directed my own play, and have been published by various student papers, zines and online publications.
I'm seeking to offer support to up to First Year University students in English language and literature studies, as well as helping students develop their critical and creative voice in their writing. I can compliment their studies, develop their understanding of and engagement with their curriculums, and increase individuality and confidence in their work.

I achieved an A* in my English Literature and an A in my English Language iGCSEs, and am on track for a First Class English Literature degree.

I have two degrees in English language and literature (B.A. and Mst) from the University of Oxford, and I am also a graduate of the International Baccalaureate (I.B.) Diploma program. I've developed a creative approach in my sessions with students that involves applying a student's particular talents and interests (regardless of subject) in the process of language acquisition, along with the simultaneous development of critical skills like close and careful reading, argumentation, written style, and effective communication.

I am versed in the requirements and intricacies of a range of national and international diploma programs. When working with students supplementing an academic syllabus, my goal is always to position them to succeed in the assignments and assessments laid out by a primary instructor.

I myself am mainly active as a writer of theatre texts, but I also have experience with writing song lyrics, literary translations, essays etc.. I approach all texts from a creative perspective and artistic vision. As a theatre author I am also concerned with how a text sounds - if it does not sound pleasant, it can certainly be written better.

As a coach, I focus primarily on giving feedback on the texts you write and I am happy to help you get started with assignments to start writing and/or to shake off the dreaded writer's block. If you prefer to focus more on theory around writing, I am of course happy to help you with that too.

As a writer (mainly playwriting, but also songs, columns, literary translations and essays) I'm very interested in helping you either to start writing, or to better your writing.
We'll work mostly by practicing and discussing your work. If you prefer to zoom in on theorists, I'm happy to guide you in that as well.

I'm a professional playwriter and dramaturg (and studied at LUCA School of Arts with Nico Boon, Freek Mariën and Nathan Vecht). I previously taught playwriting in different groups (CREA, Buitenkunst) and work as a script advisor for professional theater makers. Besides that, I often help people in writing resumes, papers and thesis papers.

In the modern world, the significance of poetry is overlooked. From Aristotle to Derrida (the range is not comprehensive), literary theory has maintained that a poem's power is measured in its affect. Throughout this course, our goal will not be to make inscrutable poetic analysis - though the first part of the lesson will be spent analysing word choice, meter, line length and spaces of an English poem written between pre-modernism and postmodernism. Rather, through our perusal of poetic form we will be able to ground our work, somewhat modestly, in the English poetic tradition.

Before the first class you will send me some of your own work so I know how to build or refine aesthetic temperament. I have been writing poetry for ten years and two years ago I published a chapbook at a press with competitive standards, and I am currently working on a full-length collection. If you wish to take up poetry seriously, time is needed and an eye for detail is essential.

I look forward to us broadening our aesthetic sensibilities together.

Have you dreamt of reading Shakespeare and making sense of his words ? Did you know that some Shakespearian plays are easier to tackle than others ? In this class we will be looking at one of Shakespeare's fantasy comedies or one of his tragedies. We will read the play together and discuss the usage of words, as well as its historical contexts. We will study the most important passages in the way they have influenced world culture. I encourage my students to memorise these passages by heart, a gratifying experience.

Articles, books, columns, film scripts, press releases, radio spots, reviews, TV scripts and simply copywriting with SEO: most of us have tried to squeeze one or more of these types of writing out of the (virtual) pen. However, it is not always easy to deliver good texts. One person has great ideas, but cannot convert them into ink (digital or otherwise); the other is creative, but makes too many spelling mistakes; and a third kind of person is a language Nazi, but fails to come up with fluent, natural-feeling dialogue. This way you can not only learn to act, but also get a taste of our courses in debate and presentation techniques (our TV course), communication, singing, improvisation, physical acting, lie detection, hypnosis, directing, or writing! Of course, it remains true: the more you follow one particular course, the faster you progress.

Our course covers all possible texts and can be followed both privately and in a small group. Moreover, we mainly teach you what you are interested in. During our first meeting we will discuss your goals in detail, after which we will focus the entire course on what you exactly want and need. About our coach

To be sure: our head coach is at home in all markets. He wrote his first book, the science fantasy Ice, the Lost Planet, when he was 11. The novel was published three years later, which earned Dirk his city's cultural merit prize and items on almost all national TV and radio stations, as well as articles in every leading newspaper and a large number of magazines. Dirk later also became the very first Flemish author whose books he himself had pinned in English were published by American publishers: Fates Worse than Death: Hunter by Vajra Enterprises and Baour, Strands of Death by BlackWyrm Publishing.

In between Dirk became a journalist. Dirk has been a coach since he was twenty – when he was still studying psychology at the KUL – and has written several film and short film scripts as an acting teacher and screenwriter. Numerous radio spots have also rolled out of his brain. The most startling assignment, however, came when Modiphius Entertainment – the largest independent producer and distributor of role-playing games in the world – hired him to write the film script and audio play for Achtung! Cthulhu to write. They were so well received that he is currently reading the complete audio series of Achtung! Cthulhu is finishing.
