I have a Master's degree in Oboe Performance, and I obtained this degree with the intention of being able to teach young oboists and help them advance. I started studying with a private teacher as a freshman in high school and my skills exploded almost immediately. Since then I have experienced several different teachers and teaching styles, and I feel like I can find a way to break through for any student. By tailoring a lesson directly to the students needs, I feel confident that I can help improve anyone's skill on the oboe.

I also obtained a concentration in music theory during my undergraduate career, and I feel that music theory is very important to the growth of one's musicality. I have done independent research and presentations in this field and have also studied privately, so I would definitely love to teach others the theoretical approach to appreciating music. With my wide array of skills and experience learning, I would love to pass on the knowledge I have learned to others striving to improve.

My first oboe teacher left a lasting impressions on me and brought my skills so sky high in a matter of months. Ever since then I have always wanted to do the same for someone, to make them feel truly talented.

I am a generally shy person and have been prone to taking criticism harshly. Knowing how I have felt in lessons at times, I would definitely prioritize not only where the student needs help but also where they shine. I feel like teaching is not only about "correcting mistakes" but also instilling confidence and making sure that students can truly believe in themselves.

Erfahrung / Qualifikationen

I've studied under 4 highly qualified professional oboists and have learned different teaching techniques from each of them. I have performed in over 20 musicals and have learned the importance of preparation and professionalism. In addition to oboe, I also play flute/piccolo, clarinet, and saxophone, and I have played all of those instruments in ensembles throughout high school and college. Not only was I making sure my oboe skills were prepared, but I also had to maintain the skills for all my other instruments. I have tutored music theory for 2 years through Lebanon Valley College.
