I'm an experienced educator from the UK, who has worked for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Great Britain as an Associate Educator, and for the prestigious Rhythm Studio in West London. I've performed all over Europe, as well as in Havana, Cuba and in the Dubai Opera House. I graduated with 1st Class Honours from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2015, and am currently studying a Jazz Drums masters at the CvA in Amsterdam. Über mich

Rod is a British Jazz Musician whose versatility takes him from an intimate jazz club setting or recording studio to the large festival stage. He has played at some of the UK’s leading music venues, in London’s West End, as well as to international audiences.

Rod received tuition from both the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music (First Class Honours degree) leading to performance opportunities alongside jazz greats including Kenny Wheeler, Dave Cliff, Norma Winstone, Soweto Kinch and Mike Stern. He studied with Martin France (Spin Marvel), James Maddren (Kit Downes Trio) and Jeff Williams (Jeff Williams Quartet).

Rod is endorsed by Bosphorous Cymbals, Ludwig Drums and also by D'Addario, the world's premier manufacturer of various instrument accessories, including Evans Drumheads and Promark Drumsticks.

My name is Ben (26), and I'm a certified drum teacher with about 15 years of experience behind the kit. Previously I have studied jazz drums at Kunstuniversitat of Graz. Currently I'm teaching at multiple institutions in Amsterdam such as: Lucky Beat Music Club, United Pop, British School of Amsterdam.

My classes take place on my boathouse at Weesperzijde, however if you wish I can also come to your place. I can guarantee you that after your first lesson you already will be able to play a simple rock beat!

I certainly believe that everyone is capable of learning to play the very basics after a short period of time. I do think that since drumming goes back all the way to the primal ages, we all have the drummer inside us, it just hasn't awakened yet. I want to be that person who will awake the drummer inside of who is wanting to learn. I feel fortunate that I'm able to do what I've studied and get to live my passion. There is nothing better than to see a student improve, develop and see when they finally start to "get it".

In addition to my performing work as a drummer and composer, I have been teaching drums to motivated students of different levels and ages for over 20 years. As a certified drum teacher (Amsterdam Conservatory), I have my own teaching practice in the Q-factory in Amsterdam East/Oostpoort: Drum Practice East. I gave lessons and workshops to students at the HKU, the Conservatory Amsterdam (pop and jazz departments), Conservatorium Utrecht, DSOP Amsterdam, Tiroler Landeskonservatorium Innsbruck and Musikhochschule Franz Liszt Weimar (D).

Styles: rock, pop, jazz, funk, hip hop, drum 'n' bass, electro, dub-step, reggae, punk, various Latin American styles, metal, crossover, Carnatic music, ambient, drone, improvisation.

possible lesson content:

drums and percussion:
– focus on the student's interests and goals: adjusting methods and pace.
– we work on improving timing, sound, interaction, dynamics, independence, stick and foot technique.
– select your favorite music and play along.
– jamming with 2 drum sets, with guitar and drums or bass guitar and drums.
– expand your drum set with percussion instruments and sound objects.
– learn to read and write notes
– we end the school year with a summer concert for parents and friends.

e-drums and electronics:
– learn to play on an electronic drum set and get to know all the benefits of e-drums
– the use of effects on acoustic or electric drums (such as loops, reverb, delays, distortion, harmonizers)
– playing synthesizers using your drum kit (via triggers)

logic:
– making your own samples
– creating your own music productions
– recording different instruments
– get to know the basics of an audio mix
– creating and printing sheet music

compose:
– learning how a song is constructed
– analyzing and transcribing music
– creating your own compositions using your instrument as a basis
– further developing your existing compositions
– composing with logic using MIDI instruments and/or recordings
– improve your music theory skills

band doctor/band coaching:
I would like to come to your rehearsal to give you tips about ensemble playing, composing, arranging, recording and production of a demo or album, improvisation, performance and booking.
