Private lessons in mathematics, chemistry or physics for students aged 7 to 18

I am a first year master's student at EPFL, in biology. I offer support courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. The course offers a possibility of help for students having difficulties in the courses offered. The student will find a framework where they can ask these questions, discuss methodologies and improve. Putting my knowledge at the service of other people is something I like to share. I love teaching and have always enthusiastically helped my classmates. I have been giving private lessons since 2016 (around 25 students, including one for Analysis I, EPFL). I am also an assistant for two courses at EPFL (3rd year Bachelor and Master levels), and I co-created and taught the EPFL Advanced Analysis course during the welcome week for new students (Students4Students EPFL). I strive to transmit my knowledge and my passion for the subject to my students, at a pace adapted to their needs. I think that students who take private lessons have a sincere desire to overcome their difficulties and that we must therefore pay particular attention to encouraging them. It is therefore step by step that I help them understand the material, by developing their intuition of the different concepts covered while ensuring that they fill in their gaps. Maths and physics are among the branches that divide students the most. However I am convinced that it is possible to reconcile them with their refractories by providing a personalized and pragmatic pedagogy, while linking the subject to other branches to anchor them in a general knowledge. Thus these courses given at home are personally adapted to each student according to his affinities and his goals.

At university, I have been an assistant in Chemistry for the first years of EPFL for a few years as well as for a course linking mathematics and electronics, called Signals and Systems. So I am used to teaching and explaining concepts to students with difficulties. I also give private lessons to students passing the Swiss maturity or the French baccalaureate. To try to see together the difficulties as well as the misunderstandings: we go back to the lesson together, we do an exercise together and then I let the student do it independently and we review together if he is blocked or if we need to correct. The methodology is the key to success for a student in the first year of medicine at the University of Geneva. It must be understood that this methodology is based on a fine balance between "being systematic", (ie ensuring all learning objectives) and "being effective" (ie working on the topics that most often come under discussion). In terms of science learning, I base my courses entirely on multiple-choice questions of two types: -Quest instructional questions: the goal is to check your understanding of the learning objectives; -question "type" exam: to prepare you for the level of difficulty required and get used to answer questions in 2 minutes on the day of the exam. In addition to tutoring I also offer courses in e-learning on my platform exa-MED tutoring. Student in the first year of a master's degree in environment at EPFL and having followed scientific studies in France, I propose a school support in science targeted so as to advance the student so that it fills its gaps or even take the advanced. Salvation! My name is André and I have just finished my Doctorate in Physics at EPFL. I offer support courses in Mathematics and Sciences for primary school students. My methods are characterized by personalized support for each student, while considering their objectives. I help students in difficulty to succeed in their learning, but also those who want to reach a level of excellence and perhaps go a little beyond the school programs. The courses will be adapted to each individual case. I prioritize understanding to the detriment of memorization and I help students develop their mathematical / scientific reasoning, in order to make them more autonomous and give them the bases for their future studies.

I quickly noticed that the problem often comes from understanding the exercises given rather than the course itself, so here's how I like to proceed: I always start by first making sure that the principle of the course is understood by focusing on the points that block, and then we can start looking at the exercises, given by the teacher, that pose a problem. The goal is that at the end of the rehearsal course, the student has in his hands cards with the different methods used to solve all the possible types of exercises, especially those requested in the exam. I myself take care of preparing these sheets during the rehearsal course in order to summarize all the methods acquired.
