FREN 303 Survey of French Literature Credit Hours: 3 Introduces major literary movements, principal writers, and outstanding works of French literature in their historical contexts beginning with the sixteenth century. Prerequisite: FREN 302 or permission of instructor. FREN 310 Study Abroad Seminar Credit Hours: 1 Satisfies the study abroad requirement for the major. After study abroad, students submit a reflection paper and/or assigned written work related to their formal and informal learning gained during the stay. FREN 325 Topics in French Civilization Credit Hours: 3 Explores aspects of French civilization and culture, including history, religion, the arts, politics, and gender. FREN 350 Survey of French Cinema in English Credit Hours: 3 Provides an overview of French and Francophone cinemas starting with the origins of cinematic art. The course examines landmark film classics as well as a selection of contemporary French-language films. The basic vocabulary and concepts of cinematography are taught in order to give students tools for an in-depth analysis of the films. FREN 360 Topics in French Language and Culture Credit Hours: 1-3 Provides an opportunity to study a linguistic, literary, or cultural topic related to the French-speaking world. Courses in topical areas not offered in the regular curriculum may be offered on a rotating basis. The course may be repeated for credit as subject matter changes. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing and permission of instructor. FREN 431 French Culture Seminar Credit Hours: 3 Provides the advanced student the opportunity for in-depth study of an aspect of French or Francophone culture, which may include: literature, art, cinema, business culture, or another approved topic. I booked a daily 90 minutes class for my son Nicolo' (16 years old) for 2 weeks. He was an absolute beginner and usually has a very limited enthusiasm for "extra-classes". Lucia was absolutely fantastic. She made the magic of creating a learning environment that was fun, friendly and effective at the same time. My son Nicolo' was so enthusiastic about the classed to the point that I could not believe it when he asked me to do more classes with Lucia after the 2 weeks. Lucia was good to teach with real life situation and not in an academic way. She was very good in explaining difficult concept in an easy way. Lucia is a very competent teacher and a trusted professional. I would recommend her to anyone.

My husband and I are probably considered advanced beginner Spanish speakers. We booked a week of lessons with Camilo in Medellin Colombia while we were spending time there and it was a very good experience. Camilo is not just someone who speaks the language; He is educated as a teacher and it shows. For me he did just the right amount of leading/teaching, listening, and correcting. His English is also very good, which was helpful the few times it made more sense to ask/answer in English. He is also a very nice and pleasant person to be with. I highly recommend him as a teacher and imagine that he would be just as good a teacher with true beginners as well as advanced speakers.

Germán is a great teacher and also fun to work with. He first carefully diagnoses strengths and weaknesses and then designs tailored exercises around the learning needs and gives concrete feedback and shares vocabulary tips. If you search someone to better understand homework/grammar exercises or someone for stand-alone private classes, German is your guy for both. He can explain grammar or improve conversational skills. Before our private lessons, I took courses at the Cervantes institute and my professor there also respected him a lot for his teaching methods and knowledge.
