Ciao a tutti/Konnichiwa/Hello!
My name is Amelia and I am a Canadian-born British/Japanese cellist currently based in Italy living in the Republic of San Marino. Being a musician is not just learning how to learning only the technical aspects of the instrument, but also the skill of working with others in a professional environment. I found that the skills I learnt from music was not just about being proficient at my instrument, but to learn to have discipline and patience (Much easier said than done!).
Teaching Mission:
My mission for students is for them to learn to apply themselves in music or any field they decide to pursue. Growing up, I often mixed the dedication and time I needed to stay in a room practicing to living a life of isolation. It is not until very recently that I have felt the real benefits and what a gift to see how music really does bring me closer to people in a way that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.
Learning to be flexible and having the ability to adjust and respect people from other countries.
Music is a universal language that unites people alongside food and sports!

Présentation
Hello! My full name is Amelia Shiori Ohno and I grew up in Calgary, Alberta (Canada) in a billingual household speaking Japanese to my mom and English to my dad. Culturally, my home life was very much influenced by the Japanese culture and I see Japan as my second home. However, because of my British influence, I still to this day alongside with my sister have a very strong accent.
I began teaching 10 years ago in Calgary teaching private cello and piano students. With these students, I prepared them for the Royal Conservatory of Music exams that are held in Canada. I had my first advanced coaching experience while I was still in high school where I coached chamber groups that were part of the Academy Program for Gifted Youth.
I moved to Florence, Italy in the summer of 2018 after touring Eastern Canada and Europe with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. I am finishing my biennio (masters of Music) at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory. In Florence, I am currently a cello instructor at the International School of Florence. I was also a string instructor and coordinator for Gioorchestra, an orchestra for young children at the Trillo Associazione Culturale where I taught groups of 8-10 beginner cello and violin students aged 6-8 in a group setting. Therefore, I have had experience teaching young children up to university level students in both Italian and English. Being able to incorporate the Italian language to English students and vice versa is something I personally find vital. I now live in the Republic of San Marino where together with my partner Nicola Giaquinto (Pianist) where we work on various projects.
