My lessons aim to transfer the joy of music, develop musical imagination and creativity together with the gradual improvement of technic according to age and individual dispositions so that playing an instrument is a musical experience and pleasure for all. Having a Master's Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, I give my courses not as a side-activity but as my profession. I believe that effective teaching brings responsibility and requires educational background and commitment. Along with the courses, for various age groups, I follow different approaches depending on the individual needs. PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN Are you a parent and would you like your child to begin playing the piano in an early age? With 4-6 year old ones my lessons have rather a playful character. I use a piano book adapted to this age group which tells a story to kids while they are learning new songs. Listening, singing, movement and rythmic activities are also included in order to bring out the music in every young child. SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN Being capable of reading music notes with ease will help your children to learn new repertoire quicker and gives them freedom to read a song whenever they want without having to wait for their teacher. Learning notes by simply memorizing them is hovewer often discouraging, therefore in my lessons your child will learn about music notes in a fun way - intorducing to my students a story where each character presents a concrete music note helps them to read sheet music with ease. A piano book will be chosen depending on your child’s level to ensure a progressive improvement of piano skills. This is eventually supplemented with additional repertoire – usually I bring several musical pieces and the student chooses the one she/he likes the most. TEENAGERS With teenage beginners I use an accelerated piano book designated for this age group. In case of students who already have a knowledge of piano playing, I build up on what they have learnt and continue expanding their piano skills and musical creativity. The lessons are adapted to the student‘s intention to either play the piano as a hobby or to become a professional musician. I believe that playing a musical piece we like is much more effective, therefore when choosing a new repertoire I usually offer more pieces from which my students can choose, I am also open to suggestions of my students. ADULTS Do you think you are too old to start playing the piano? Its never too late to learn something new. In fact, adults have many advantages over a child learning how to play music such as larger attention, quick theory understanding and last but not least a strong desire to learn, which is not always the case with children. Do you have a favourite song you’d like to learn but it is too difficult for a beginner? Many famous melodies from classical but also popular repertoire are available in easy arrangments suitable for beginners. I also suggest a piano book designated for adult learners which helps to gradually improve their piano skills.

< Learning to play the piano is not learning to play the piano > Before you start learning the piano, you should know that: -''What we really want to learn is "music", not "piano".'' The purpose of learning any instrument is to learn to use the language of "music" so that we can use it to express ourselves and enjoy ourselves with others. We play the piano to make beautiful music, not to make our hands fast or our fingers strong ( That is the job of gym.). < Course content > Actually, I prefer calling my course " Music Counselling " because we will not only discuss " piano performance ", but also music theory, music history, instrument structure, piano playing ergonomy, composers' style study, harmony, composition, arrangement, recording, computer music, MIDI, sound physics. . and all sorts of other topics that professional musicians should know about, but for now, for not confusing you, I will simply call our classes "piano lessons". < Duration > For each course, I will schedule at least 70 minutes for you, including 60 minutes for the course, plus 10 minutes for discussion and questions (so that your course isn't rushed by the next student). I hope our courses will give you enough time to solve your piano and music problems. < Recording > I highly encourage and help my students to record. This gives you an objective standard to review what you have done. In my 9 years music teaching experience, it is often that a student is already playing some parts very well, but because there is no objective standard to compare, they feel they could be better, but don't know how to make it better. It's easy to get tired and bored when one is practicing without a clear goal. Comparing your recordings with those you like on YouTube or Spotify can help you to identify yourself a lot. If you have a digital piano, for each session we can produce your music video as a result of your effort. When I have a new student, I spend time understanding his or her current level and discussing his or her study plan in details. My student is fairly free to select their own themes, repertoires, and study progress.

Learning to play the piano is like learning another language, it is the language of the body in harmony with the music. I teach my students to have a musical thought to better understand the technique and I work on body gestures to make it easier to adapt to the instrument. I can learn to read and write music, have notions of music theory, play classical music, songs, movie music, ... I have a Master in Solo Piano and a Master in Chamber Music from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. I also have a musical diploma of the regional conservatory of Paris. I'm holding a bachelor degree in jazz music (accordion, keyboards) from Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and master degree (bandoneon) in World Music / Argentine Tango from Codarts / Hogeschool voor de kunsten (Rotterdam, the Netherlands). Concertist and teacher, Johanna studied piano solo at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin Hanns Eisler and now continues them as a Master at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. A committed pedagogue, Johanna favors the expansion of the repertoires mastered by her students, and associates improvisation, harmony and knowledge of the context (historical and musical) to these courses. She has taught at the Franco-German Music School in Berlin and at the Conservatoire in Rouen and now holds a class at the Ecole de Piano de Rouen. Johanna pursues a career as a concert artist, she plays regularly in chamber music with her trio Hémisphères and as a soloist in various repertoires in France and Germany _Paris, Berlin, Rouen, Baden-Baden, Aix-en-Provence ... She plays in the Musique Dans la rue, Piano Demain, Jeune Talents, Piano Tremplin festivals, and received a special prize.
