I use to start my classes greeting the student and asking how can I help, what is (are) the question (s) and invite the student to work with me on the solution. Normally, the student works as well, and in that process, I can see what is (are) the topics I need to explain, so at the end the students knows how to solve that kind of question. Sometimes, the student can't help in the solution of the problem. I that case, I explain it thoroughly and then place another similar question on the board, so the student becomes more confident and realize that it's perfectly capable to master the theory he needs to solve that problem. I apply this method in K8 Mathematics, Introduction to Statistics, Statistics for Business and Applied Statistics.
