The clarinet is a single-reed musical instrument in the woodwind family, with a nearly cylindrical bore and a flared bell.

Clarinets comprise a family of instruments of differing sizes and pitches. The clarinet family is the largest woodwind family, ranging from the BB♭ contrabass to the E♭ soprano. The B♭ soprano clarinet is the most common type, and is the instrument usually indicated by the word "clarinet".

German instrument maker Johann Christoph Denner is generally credited with inventing the clarinet sometime around the year 1700 by adding a register key to the chalumeau, an earlier single-reed instrument. Over time, additional keywork and airtight pads were added to improve the tone and playability. Today the clarinet is a standard fixture of the orchestra and concert band and is used in classical music, military bands, klezmer, jazz, and other styles.

I studied from 2019 to 2020 with Marco Tomas, a professor at the university of Arts in Bremen, Germany and former concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Later, I was enrolled in the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, Belgium, to study for a master's degree with Professor Benjamin Dieltjens, graduating in 2022.

The course is intended for anyone seriously interested in the functioning of the voice and its application in singing (support, power, vocal stability, timbre, etc.).

Inspired by the EVT (Estill Voice Training) method, a system that explains how the voice works and uses it to rehabilitate vocal disorders, strengthen public speakers and support high-level performers, my goal is to make the student more aware of their vocal instrument and more comfortable in their sound emission and singing.

We will begin by exploring the source of sound: our body. We will cover breathing and warm-up exercises, and focus on various sound emission techniques to improve voice quality and control.

My name is Carmen and I am an opera singer. I studied at the PI Chaykovsky Conservatory in Moscow and the famous Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. I attended many masterclasses in Russia, Italy and Austria with Edda Moser, Renata Scotto, Nino Machaidze etc. I was also a soloist in the Vatican Choir.

I live in Leuven but I am available throughout Brussels and Leuven. Lessons are possible in Dutch, French or English.

If you take the time to learn the clarinette, read the progress and receive the course of the solfège, you will enjoy the end! Our body, this instrument - nay, this “nomadic cathedral” with its vaults, its alcoves, ... its multiple spaces of resonance - we are often intrinsically rather than intimately linked to it. The vibrations that we emit when we sound our breath, transforming into song, can prove to be a powerful tool in the resolution of tensions, the calming of the mind, but also in the (re)discovery of oneself through our body, our senses and our voice, this musicality that is unique to us.

We experience the world on a daily basis through our body and our senses, and the voice allows us to share these experiences with others, both in its daily and extra-daily communicative function; artistic; poetic.
