Developing electronic music production skills has become a real advantage for musician in any genre of music. The lessons can include technical topics - mastering the tools, different approaches to composing and arranging as well as mixing. The lessons are tailor made to fit your level and goals. I have more than 10 years of experience composing, arranging, recording, producing and playing music and I love sharing the skills that I have acquired along the way.

Making your own music is a very personal practice that demands attention and care. It is comforting to learn the craft and to know what to focus on now and what to deal later in the process. This way you can let your creativity lead the way and take care of the technical details after on. With this course, you'll learn the KNOW-HOW of making your own music from start to finish. We will go through; inspiration, composing, arranging, production, mixing, mastering, and release. You will understand the conceptual frame and the technical craft behind them. In no time you will start applying them to your own workflow as well, no matter what genre you are interested in, electronic, pop, jazz, indie, experimental, classical, and so on. I try to make sure all my students leave the class with a new idea, a fascination, or a new question in their minds about whatever they want to do but most importantly with a smile. The music gathers people, and so is making it. That's why the lessons can flow into a conversation, a joke, a listening discussion, and a feedback session in which we become not only a teacher and a student but hopefully also friends. This class is suitable for beginners, intermediate, or advanced musicians, as well as music lovers who want to delve deeper into the art of music-making. We will use Ableton as our main DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) because of its powerful tools for creating, playing, producing, and even performing your live set in front of an audience. The class will be tailored to your interests and the music genres you want to explore. The goal is that by the end of your training with me, you’ll have the tools you need to write, produce, and mix a song—and even perform it live, if that’s something you're aiming for.

Have you always dreamt of recording your own song? Do you want to take your musical ideas to the next level? Regardless if you've never recorded your own music or if you've already experimented with Digital Audio Workstations (DAW), this course will teach you the basics of music composition and production. We will use both basic music theory and music production tricks to come up with and create your first song(s). From brainstorming song ideas on the piano or guitar, recording vocals and percussion or adding drums in the DAW, you will have complete freedom over your creativity. Main skills taught: basics of DAWs, recording and mixing instruments and vocals, using and manipulating samples, creating drum beats and chord progressions, music theory, expressing and communicating musical ideas, complementary knowledge about music history. Ableton Live is a powerful program to play, compose and improvise music with. This course provides hands-on experience in producing, mixing, and sound design with a digital audio workstation. Students will learn the fundamentals characteristics of sound and digital audio, creative ways of composing music and an introduction to signal processing such as equalization, compression, delay, and reverb. In addition to core audio and mixing concepts, students will learn various production techniques, such as sequencing, arranging, automation, using virtual instruments (eg synths, samplers, and drum machine plugins), working with MIDI, plugin formats such as VST / Audio -Units, and mapping digital USB controllers for the studio and live performances. The moment of engagement between the performer and the listener it is the most intense feeling I’ve ever felt. It is a very unexpected moment, it just happens and there you are holding your instrument in front of people you are sharing your performance with. Suddenly everyone is waiting for you to continue the story you have been telling and everyone is just at the same time on the same place and you have what they need: a message they want to hear and they know you will share it with them. So once you do you reach that sensation, that moment, and what happens afterwards it is magic! It is absolutely wonderful how one, a hundred or even thousands of humans can be on hold for the same message and once it is delivered they just feel it the same exactly way as you do. This sensation is not only happening on a performance but also on a teaching situation. Hi, my name is Jim. I'm an electronic music producer with a Master’s degree in Music from the Fontys Academy of Arts (Rockacademie) in Tilburg, Netherlands. Music has always been my way of exploring the world — through raw field recordings, synthesis, and emotional storytelling. Over the past 12 years, I’ve developed a complete, self-sufficient creative process: from concept to composition, sound design to vocal production, mixing, mastering, and live performance. I’m passionate about helping others gain those same end-to-end technical skills — so they can bring their own musical vision fully to life. As Malvae, I’ve written, sung, recorded, produced, mixed, mastered, and performed all of my work. My music reached #17 in the Spotify Viral 50 charts in the USA, gathered millions of streams, and featured in international film productions including King of the Streets and Netflix’s Terrace House Japan. One of the most formative moments in my career was my Amazonas album project, where I traveled into the Amazon rainforest to record and manipulate natural sounds. 90% of that album was created entirely from these field recordings, reshaped through granular synthesis and advanced sound design into a cohesive sonic journey. That experience deeply shaped how I approach my music and how I teach sound design and composition. I’ve headlined shows at iconic venues like Melkweg Amsterdam with immersive, self-built audiovisual live sets using Ableton Live, modular gear, sequencers, and Resolume for live integrated visuals. I curated my own events and performed at venues like A’dam Tower, OT301. I also teach at studios such as Wisseloord in Hilversum, guiding students through the technical and creative intersections of sound and performance. Selected Works & Collaborations: My EP Like Bees to a Hive began as a soundscape for fashion brand Lobomar’s collection Final Orders, Please, presented at the Amsterdam World Museum. I collaborated with South African poet Julia-Beth Harris, integrating her spoken word into a seamless, atmospheric release. From sequential Prophet 6 textures to ADX1 drum machine layers and detailed field recordings, I handled every layer, from concept through multitrack production to the final live performance in London. My Chrysalis EP, released as a limited-edition heavyweight red vinyl, pushed that even further, combining ethereal vocals, analog grit, and unique textures to craft an emotionally rich release. I personally led every part of the project’s technical and creative execution, from arrangement and vocal production to final mixing, mastering and vinyl press preparation. In addition to my own projects, I’ve worked as a vocal producer and mixing engineer, including on Esther Veen’s EP Before I Go, where I handled recording, complex vocal layering, creative processing, production, multivocal arrangement and final mixing to deliver a polished, high-impact sound.
