Literacy and Numeracy skills can be challenging for pupils to acquire, whether this is decoding/ spelling for pupils with Dyslexia; comprehending aspects of language for pupils with Autism or maths related anxiety for pupils suffering with poor academic self-esteem, these sessions will improve the necessary skills to build a strong foundation and supporting progress in academia and development of other skills needed on a daily basis.

Skills can be developed through honing in on interests and making learning relatable to real-life incorporating games and quizzes to not only improve literacy and numeracy but working, visual and auditory memory skills as well as supporting metacognitive skills (independence and organisation) Focussing on developing skills with high repetition and low stakes testing to increase ability and confidence.

I am a qualified and practicing SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) in a secondary provision responsible for designing and implementing successful interventions to improve these skills. I am a qualified teacher with a PGCE in Science and over 15 years of experience working with young people with special educational needs, with a genuine passion for teaching and supporting individuals learn and grow.

I am a qualified Special Educational Needs Coordinator, with a PGCE in Science and over 10 years of experience tutoring and teaching individuals between the ages of 4 and 21. When I was completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology at UCL, I started tutoring and became sold on teaching: supporting people to develop skills and acquire knowledge; igniting interest and open doors to opportunities are just some of the factors driving my love of teaching.

Creating equity through inclusion is at the heart of my practice, working with individuals to improve and secure their foundational skills acting as a building block for them to overcome hurdles, grow their understanding and confidence as well as access opportunities opportunities throughout their lives. This technique has allowed pupils I work with to go from obtaining U's to achieving a grade 4/5 or stretching pupils who were achieving grades 4/5 to 7's, 8's and 9's.

Whilst outcomes are important relationships are key to this success to allow learning to be fun and engaging, which allows individuals to truly thrive. I love learning! And love igniting that passion in others; I am a firm believer that learning changes lives because learning is for life. The capacity to learn is the superpower we all share. Reframing perspectives and offering new narratives whether it is in relation to a poem, scientific theory or maths equation allows people to unlock their superpower and succeed.

For Linguistics and Phonetics you will go through your university course assignments with me, we shall do "Chomskian trees" and we shall discuss theoretical points (eg GB theory, minimalist program). This is a young girl that had grade 2 before I started tutoring her. I helped her building her confidence, showed her exam tips, how to revise and more importantly how marks are allocated for every questions. She was really happy when she opened her GCSE letter and realised that she got 4.

This lovely year 11 boy was a grade 5 student in maths, after working really hard with him, doing exam papers every week, giving him challenged questions he did extremely well and achieved a grade 7 maths. His grade then allowed him to confirm his place in a Grammar school in Kent.
I am also trained to teach/tutor mathematics using mathematics mastery. This is a program designed to help students conceptualise and understand the reason why we are studying mathematics. This program follows a CPA approach (Concrete Pictorial Abstract). For every topic that I teach/tutor, I always bring maths alive by taking real life examples. These help students understand the concept. For instance: Calculating with negative numbers is a topic that most student find difficult in maths. even those that get it might not be able to explain the reason why -4 + 8 = 4.
when teaching this topic, I like using oyster cards, bank account or the weather as an example. `if I have -4 pound in my oyster card what does it mean? ` Now I top up 8 pounds what will my new balance be? This was just an example of how to link mathematics to real life situations.

I can teach/tutor students with different abilities this include higher, middle and lower set.
