I have an initial background in both Piano and Vocals, and performed with National Arts Centre Opera Lyra company for a number of years. I branched out into Jazz studies to become more flexible with modern style, improvisation and composition. I combine the best of what I learned from each approach to make you a well rounded pianist who can read and interpret sheet music but also understand the underlying theory, structures, and how to manipulate them into your own arrangements, improvisations and compositions. I write much of my own teaching materials, and combine in pieces that suit my curriculum from other composers. Though there is a structure curriculum, we can also lean into the personal passions of the student as many materials can be used to learn the fundamental skills. This way we can make maximum progress while staying personally motivated.
