I was born in Germany and moved to Ireland when I was seven without being able to speak a single word of English. When I started primary school, English was not a taught class so I never learned it formally.

So how did I learn? Simply by listening, slowly building up vocabulary and engaging in ever more complex conversation. Within a year, I was fluent, and no one would have guessed that I had not grown up in an English speaking country. Even my German accent was gone! That experience formed my approach to teaching.

Based on my 13 years of experience, I think that A1 level is a very important period in language learning. When learning any language, beginner level students should learn it in the correct order and important details should be explained well by practising previous ones. Students at more advanced levels, such as A2, B1 or above, also need to practice their skills at the previous level thoroughly to improve their language skills. I try to provide good teaching by paying attention to these important points in my lessons. I keep our lessons' notes in a word file.
