Have you been staring at the equations that the teachers write as if you were looking at hieroglyphs on the wall? Do you feel stuck when you are confronted by your exercises, not a single idea coming to mind? My name is Bastien, I studied Physics for my Bachelor's at EPFL and a Master's in Quantum Engineering at ETH. During my studies, I was a Teaching Assistant for classes in Electromagnetism, Fluid Dynamics, Analysis, and Special Relativity. I also gave private lessons to students in need before their exams. Through these experiences, I discovered that no matter your level we all tend to get stuck in front of math equations at one point or another. We get lost in the details and seem to be unable to see the big picture, to understand where all of this is going, and why any of it is useful at all.

In these classes, I want to help you deal with these issues. It doesn't matter if you are in middle school, high school, or starting your Bachelor's. The goal of these classes is to help you cultivate the skills needed not only to improve your grades but also to be a better problem solver. I will help you develop your passion and curiosity for mathematics. The passion that you maybe never knew you had! We will look at mathematics not as a monolithic entity but as a language. Ultimately, mathematical excellence can be decomposed into four primary skills: memory, patience, curiosity, and creativity. During this class, we will:

Mathematics in the end is not about the mathematics themselves. It is about the problems they allow us to solve and the language they give us to confront them.

I am a recent ETH Quantum Engineering graduate. Growing up in Chile, then going to EPFL for my bachelor’s degree and now living in Zürich I’ve come across very different people from very different cultures. However, all the impressive people that I’ve met during my studies share one thing: curiosity drives them. In my classes I strive to share this with my students: the passion to learn, to ask questions and to always wonder about the world around us. While I love physics and math and absolutely love to have discussions about these ideas what truly moves me is to see that spark of enthusiasm igniting in a student’s eyes after they understand a concept.

But for a strong plant to grow it needs strong roots. When I give classes, the student is the priority: his current level, way of thinking and goals will all shape how the class is arranged. With me, the student gets to develop their own way of thinking about the problems while they build a stronger understanding of the content they are currently seeing at school. Patience and regularity are key for this: for curiosity and understanding to appear, they need space to grow. As such, the student needs to feel comfortable and feel like any question is a valid one to have.

As a high school teacher with a Master's degree in mathematics and 11 years of experience in face-to-face and online teaching, I offer qualified and competent private lessons for all levels, ranging from high school TC-SC 1Bac Sc-SM to Bac PC-SM, through middle school and classes of 2nd and 1st general Terminale specialty of the French system, as well as for levels 5th, 4th and 3rd of middle school, and preparation for the baccalaureate and competitions .

I emphasize the method, with a rigorous, personalized approach adapted to the rhythm of each student in order to help him progress while regaining confidence in himself. My job is to identify each student's shortcomings, organize their time and manage their priorities.

👨‍🎓 With 4 years of experience in distance education, I am a mathematics teacher specializing in support lessons and private lessons. I also teach physics and chemistry as well as scientific subjects in general.

I hold a Master's degree in Operational Research (Applied Mathematics) and I have been teaching private lessons for more than three years, mainly mathematics for middle and high school levels.

✏ I have taught students from different schools, whether public, private, following the French program (mission), Belgian, Swiss, Spanish (students from French-speaking or English-speaking Spanish schools) or American. In summary, all French or English programs.

✏ I support students from A to Z in all stages of their learning, using a simple, new generation and effective methodology: explanation of lessons, summary of lessons, application and deepening exercises, etc.

Sessions usually take place as follows:

2️⃣ Then we make a plan to fill those gaps: number of hours of work required, parts of the lessons to focus on, lots of training and development exercises, etc.

3️⃣ We make sure to stay up to date with the student's class teacher to track their progress and align our work with what is being taught in class.

4️⃣ Then I provide exams similar to what may be offered in class.

5️⃣ Upon request, I write a monthly report to keep parents informed of their child's level throughout the course.

I also adapt my methodology according to the needs of each student, which means that everyone has a personalized working method adapted to their needs!
