Hi, I'm Philip!
I'm a professional Bass player and teacher based in Amsterdam.
I have studied with some of the best teachers in Europe as well as famous bassists from the New York Jazz Scene. Besides my studies I have been actively performing, recording and teaching since age 16, which led me to play at different festivals and venues such as North Sea Jazz, JazzOpen Stuttgart, Bimhuis, DeDoelen Rotterdam.
I'm calm and easy going and I want to pass on the knowledge I got from my teachers as well as my own experience. I always focus on getting you ready or better at playing in a band, since that's what we do as bass players! I'm experienced in and open to a wide variety of styles, my specialization being Jazz.

A seasoned and passionate musician since the age of 15, I gave my first lessons more than 10 years ago. I am an excellent pedagogue, and I adapt to the level of the student, whether in terms of technical mastery of the instrument, ability to read notes (or tablature), as well as understanding music theory and of the theory. I put myself at the service of the student, his level and his tastes and musical projects. I have a thorough knowledge of music theory, particularly in jazz, and a long experience of playing together (jazz, rock and progressive metal). I can thus provide the theoretical elements necessary for the student to fully appropriate his instrument, at his own pace, and be able to play in a group, invent bass lines, improvise and compose pieces.

The bass is the most important instrument in a musical ensemble, whether in jazz, rock, blues, funk, metal or pop. She is the benchmark for all other musicians, she defines both rhythm and harmony, and she literally makes the bodies of the listeners vibrate.

I am studying jazz guitar at the MUK - Music and Art Private University of the City of Vienna with Professor Christopher Pawluk. I have been actively playing guitar for 10 years and also have 3 years of teaching experience. I am highly trained to teach jazz guitar, but can also offer advanced knowledge in other musical genres such as: classical, rock, pop, RnB, soul, funk, and so on. I enjoy working with anyone who enjoys music of any kind and wants to improve or learn guitar. I can also offer bass guitar lessons.

Learn guitar from an experienced musician from Germany! I have played guitar for more than twenty years now and played over a hundred gigs with different bands (rock, pop, singer/songwriter, cover).

My method is a very simple one - tell me, what you would like to play, and I will teach you to play it in a few lessons. No musical background knowledge is needed, and we will not dive too far into music theory. My lessons are all about fun and learning quickly and without many difficulties.

For me, the most important is to help my students reach their goals, supporting them in any kind of situation. I’m happy to start with a beginner on their musical journey, prepare an advanced player for a music university audition or entrance exam, or a casual player who just wants to learn music and have fun. I always try to personalize my lessons and focus on the aims of my students. My main field is Jazz however I'm able to teach other genres like pop, latin, classical and funk. In my teaching method the music theory, scales, rhythm, harmony, improvisation, a defined technique on the instrument and several practising methods are all very important in order to improve. Throughout my career, I have toured across the UK, EU and US, playing at well known festivals, theatres and world renowned venues. I hold a BMus(hons) in Bass Guitar and have served in HM Royal Marines Band Service for 8 years specialising in Bass Guitar, Tuba and Double Bass.

As well as being a full-time professional musician, I was a senior lecturer at Leeds Conservatoire, UK, from 2018-2023, developing and delivering courses and curriculums, and have been a private teacher for 15 years. I hold Bachelor and Master's degrees in music, double bass and composition and have studied at schools in Birmingham, Paris and Berlin.

Our lessons are based around the areas you are most interested in developing, and together we come up with a plan to help you move closer to your goals and goals, whether that be learning specific songs or repertoire, being able to improvise basslines or solos, improving techniques etc. I am open to all ways of learning at all levels, from beginners to professionals. I also offer free optional audio or video feedback between lessons which can serve as useful reminders of ideas, techniques, exercises etc. or just to check in.

Instrumental lessons are relaxed and can include theory, composition and improvisation from the beginning to help develop well-rounded musical skills.
