The French language can be difficult to learn at a more advanced level, but I'm here to help! No worries if you're not at the most advanced level yet -- I'll get you there.

My tutoring will aid with advanced grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and pronunciation. I can help with homework, provide test reviews, and answer any question under the sun related to the French language. I will start with 10-15 minutes of conversation practice (tell me about your day or your favorite food!) and then we will go into assigned work or start practicing more difficult concepts. I especially love helping with reading comprehension and pronunciation -- let me know what book you are reading and we can read it together, and I can help you start speaking French comme un.e vrai.e francophone!

Bonjour! My name is Zoe, and I am a senior in college studying History-Literature with a minor in French. I am originally from New Jersey but moved to Portland for school and I absolutely love it here. I have been studying French since I was six years old and have loved it since the very first day I stepped into the classroom.

I am currently studying 17th and 18th century France for my thesis, though I have experience with everything from Middle French legal texts to modern French films and music -- I've had the song "Le jeu" by Yelle on repeat for weeks. One of the reasons why I love the French language is because of how expressive it is. There is a depth of understanding words and the that knowing a second language has given me, and I am very excited to share that with others and help them get there too.

In my free time I like to go thrifting with friends, rock out with my band, and read at coffee shops!

Holder of a Master's degree in Letters and endowed with a solid experience in private lessons, I provide French lessons for students wishing to:
- consolidate their bases in grammar, spelling
- improve their language skills (allophone students)
- improve their speaking skills (conversation classes)
-profect the written expression
- prepare for ECR exams
- prepare for the written examinations at the end of the studies (maturity, certificate of completion)
- help with the writing of works of maturity (or other works of end of studies), of dissertation
- work on argumentative texts
- acquire a method to analyze literary texts

The course material is a Google Docs document that I create in which my explanations, possible links, exercises appear. By reading it regularly, progress will be faster. It can also be used in addition to other documents (files printed by school teachers and/or books) and has many advantages: automatic updating, downloadable on tablets and smartphones, simultaneous monitoring of what is writing.

For help with writing:

The objective is above all to acquire effective tools. The student will thus be able to learn to structure his ideas, argue coherently (and convincingly) and enrich his vocabulary. It is essential for me to have written work from the student between each lesson.

For analyzes of oral literary texts:

In order to optimize the time available (and to put ourselves in conditions closest to oral exams), we choose together an extract from a work that the student will have previously prepared before the lesson. This would take around 20 minutes at most, and ideally just a little before the meeting time. If necessary, I have the habit of taking a paragraph at random which would serve as a basis for analyzing a passage.

For the corrections of end of studies work:

so that the meeting with the student is at the most profitable, I ask him to send me his writings before the meeting.

Apart from my presence with the student, any course involves a preparation time before and after the lesson, including the work that I correct. My goal is to design an individualized course, so I take the time to write detailed comments on corrected work or tips to ensure maximum success for everyone.

For example, an editorial correction can easily be the subject of a detailed commentary of 4 typewritten pages.

For adults (FLE):

In order to optimally prepare the first ones, I take the initiative to inform myself in advance of their objectives / expectations. Whether to practice speaking in everyday life, the professional world or to practice oral presentations, I prepare either PPT or technical sheets in advance that I send by mail ( after booking on the website).

The other alternative is to make a PV of the course that I send (or that I print). Giving importance to keeping a written record on the one hand to better memorize the topics covered, on the other hand to better assimilate the spelling.

Of a general nature, a concrete situation that responds to the learner's needs is the starting point. From this situation, I address the essential grammatical points.

I like to use different methods to teach French to students. It can be through songs, drama, role play or videos. I also very often use situations close to the student's experience, such as describing places they have been or talking about what they have experienced. At the same time, I teach the grammar rules to the student. I now live in regions where French has been spoken for over 30 years. To the uninitiated, a grammar book seems to be written in another language because the meaning of the words is incomprehensible. In a down-to-earth way, I'll translate the grammar into familiar words. With my tailor-made teaching you will accelerate your learning while having a positive mindset.

You can book a complete course with regular sessions or individual lessons to overcome a specific problem, such as pronunciation or a particular point in grammar.

Learning a foreign language is not a linear process that consists of memorising a list of words, and speaking a foreign language is not an oral translation exercise.

There are two types of approaches to acquiring knowledge:

When asked what year follows 1999, you can immediately answer 2000 without having to think for a long time and, above all, without having memorised each number individually, starting with 1, 2, 3 ... You know that numbers are formed according to a certain pattern. With only ten digits, you can form an infinite number of numbers and always know which number comes next.
