This class is for people who speak English and want to learn French.
I am a qualified high school French teacher, and have worked for six years teaching classes of students French. If you are an English speaker, you can learn French with me. I am currently living in France, to improve my own fluency. Learning French through someone who speaks your own language is usually a lot easier for the student, and to increase authenticity, there's no other place to be than France itself!

Über mich
I am a 29 year old qualified high school teacher in Australia, currently living in France to improve my own fluency. I believe it's valuable to be able to learn a foreign language in the country of origin, but it can sometimes be hard to understand concepts if they are coming from someone who isn't fluent in your native tongue. It's for this reason that I want to teach English speakers French; coming from a native English speaker who is living in France. This is possible in person or via webcam - c'est très facile!

In our world today, anybody can learn anything, anywhere. We are mobile, we can teach remotely and there really is no limit to the skills we can acquire. That is a major benefit of being able to communicate in a foreign language; it means that we can make connections abroad with a person in their mother tongue, and those connections then mean so much more. I am a teacher who approaches every single class I manage with energy and vibrance. Language learning is fun, there is no doubt, and my passion for the French language is obvious when I teach.

July 2017 - April 2019 (relief)
I had the privilege of working as a teacher at Christ Church Grammar School from term 2, 2015 until the end of term 4, 2016. During my time at CCGS, I developed a passion for working closely with boys, in order to develop their knowledge and understanding of their studies as well as life itself. I continually encouraged boys to be empowered, to grow their passion and to grasp the importance of being kind to one another at all times. This was so that they were able to interact with a sense of equality and justice as they evolved. I believe that being passionate about your subject area is so valuable in learning environments, and my love for both English and foreign languages and their ability to cultivate behaviours and values respectively, is consistent and transparent when I teach.
At Christ Church, I became involved in the co-curricular life of the school as well. I managed a year 9 Soccer team in 2015, and was promoted to year 10 B Soccer coach in 2016. This role involved training sessions twice a week after school with matches on Saturday mornings. Over the course of the season, I was able to cultivate strong relationships with the boys, which continued after the season ended. In 2015 I was part of the Venture team for its anniversary 25th year. This involved a remote 11 day hike down the south coast of WA with a group of 14 Year 10 boys and a professional outdoor leader.
This adventure was one I will never forget. In 2016 I attended swim meets and trainings with a group of boys who by now, I knew quite well. I look at my time at Christ Church as being valuable in many ways, and I am excited at the possibility of working there again.

Santa Maria College, Attadale WA
Teacher of French and English January 2014 – April 2015 Year 5, 7, 8, 9 & 10 French Teacher - 2014
Year 7, 8, 9 & 10 English Teacher - 2015
During my time at Santa Maria, I was a teacher of French for students in years 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10. I worked collaboratively with one other educator to practically implement strategies so that students were achieving their best at all times. I have high expectations of all my students, and I believe rewarding hard work and effort is essential in creating growth mindsets in every child. Teaching English, I was lucky enough to be able to work with students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10. Here, I was able to improve on my own mindset by constantly striving for growth in my learning area in order to refine my teaching practice. Over the course of my first year at the College, I was able to actively engage in personal reflection on my teaching. This involved regular meetings with my Head of Learning Area to contemplate personal growth and development. Within these review periods, I was able to discuss and set achievable and realistic goals for my own learning, and to explore strategies with which I could attain those goals.

Leeming Senior High School, Leeming WA
Relief Teacher February 2013 – December 2013
Leeming Senior High School is a public co-educational school located in the Leeming area south of Perth city. I worked at the school when it had 799 students, with an approximate class size of 25. Teaching relief at this school during 2013 meant I was able to manage and improve my behaviour and classroom management skills greatly. I was aware of, and still do, continue to follow correct child protection procedures, including mandatory reporting and documentation. Working at Leeming in my first year out of university was an eye opener to learning about students from diverse backgrounds and various intellectual capacities.

Como Secondary College, Como WA
Relief Teacher February 2013 – December 2013
As a relief teacher at this school, I was able to increase my repertoire of teaching English to students in years 8-12. Being responsible for lower ability as well as higher ability students helped me to build experience in dealing with the various levels of cognitive capacity in the classroom. I feel that as a relief teacher, I was able to broaden my capabilities through the extensive amount of students under my care and all their accompanying diversities. Students and staff alike were well aware of my high expectations of appropriate behaviour and engagement with activities in the classroom.

Classical Piano Teacher January 2012 – 2018
I currently attend the houses of two families weekly to teach two students classical piano. Previously, I have had many more students, but this becomes difficult to juggle with a full time workload. My music students are in grade 6 at St Hilda’s Anglican School. Playing the piano is one of my passions, and teaching it to these children is my pleasure every lesson.

This class is for those who want to improve their writing ability. Being able to "write" means much to an individual, allowing you to have the competence to write well in a personal journal, to writing your own cover letter for every job you apply for.

I am a writer myself, qualified with a journalism degree and have taught creative writing classes to students in high schools. If you want to improve your writing, I am the person to help you do so. I write on a blog regularly, so you will find samples of my work there, if you are interested in seeing my writing style.

Hope to see you soon : )

Learn real French, as spoken in the street, in shops or at work.

The lessons are based on actual communication in French. Imagine you met a French person who didn't speak or understand English, and you had to communicate... how would it go? maybe it would be difficult? especially at first?...

Thankfully I am used to this situation and have many techniques to overcome the difficulties of the language barrier:

1) I always use a whiteboard to illustrate my explanations. It may not seem like much but the use of pictures to illustrate an explanation makes it so much clearer! It also stimulates the imagination and increases students Pictionary skills.

2) A great deal of miming enters the communication. A student who wants to talk about his pet parakeet but doesn't know the French word "perruche" will have fun acting like a bird, imitating cage bars with his fingers, chirping merrily... When I finally understand what he is doing, I happily shout out the word PERRUCHE! as if I had just won a game. The student is happy he managed to make himself understood, and all the miming and effort will act as a powerful stimulant for his memory.

3) So in lessons we use miming, drawing, and also ... talking!! I love to teach students to use French words they already know in order to discover new French words. Students often know I'm bilingual so if they don't know a word, for example "beginning" in French, they will ask me "comment dit-on beginning en Français". So I look dumb and I ask them "C'est quoi BEGINNING? (What is BEGINNING?). And I always use a strong French accent on the English word to emphasise the fact I DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH!!
They often laugh at my reaction and search for ways to explain. Sometimes they have difficulties to explain, so I help them. Yesterday my eleven-year-old student was at a loss, but I showed him he could simply use the opposite « La Fin » (the end) to make me understand he is searching for « Le Début » (the beginning).

Lessons are lively, interactive and effective. A vous de jouer !

I offer you a new learning experience.

To the uninitiated, a grammar book seems to be written in another language because the meaning of the words is incomprehensible. In a down-to-earth way, I'll translate the grammar into familiar words. With my tailor-made teaching you will accelerate your learning while having a positive mindset.

You can book a complete course with regular sessions or individual lessons to overcome a specific problem, such as pronunciation or a particular point in grammar.

Learning a foreign language is not a linear process that consists of memorising a list of words, and speaking a foreign language is not an oral translation exercise.

There are two types of approaches to acquiring knowledge:

When asked what year follows 1999, you can immediately answer 2000 without having to think for a long time and, above all, without having memorised each number individually, starting with 1, 2, 3 ... You know that numbers are formed according to a certain pattern. With only ten digits, you can form an infinite number of numbers and always know which number comes next.

When it comes to the alphabet, words and sentences, it's more or less the same, but school pedagogy, school textbooks and regular lessons still follow the rote learning approach. In the lessons I propose, you will learn to use patterns because this is more efficient and faster.

Learning is easy, but unlearning bad habits is extremely difficult. This makes it all the more important to learn the right reflexes as early as possible.

My offer is aimed at both teenagers and adults who want to acquire a solid foundation of the Latin language without the time-consuming diversions of absurd school methods.

I offer individual or group lessons for Latin. The methods are based on cognitive science and, in particular, comparative linguistics. My flexible programme can be tailored to your individual needs.

What is particularly important to me:

motivating my students and help them establish a learning rhythm;
encouraging their creativity;
helping them become more familiar with the language;
teaching them the letters and their sounds;
strengthening their memory by training their phonological loop;
teaching sentence building plans instead of memorising sentences;
explaining how language works so that my students can become independent as quickly as possible.

I look forward to meeting you.
