I am a tutor of Italian and English as a foreign/second language. I had the opportunity to teach in different contexts with multicultural groups of students from many countries and backgrounds. I am currently teaching Italian to individual students and corporate clients with different language requirements and purposes. I have also conducted a preparation course for Italian GCSE and A level exams in London.

I teach to all levels and ages using a communicative and student-centred approach. My lessons are very interactive and focused on real life and cultural situations.
I care about my students’ learning progress and achievements and I am keen to guide them in a friendly, dedicated and respectful manner. Moreover, one of my main goals as a teacher is to enable my students to enjoy the experience of communicating, thinking and reacting in a foreign language.

I previously worked as a teacher of English as a foreign language in Italian high schools where I also conducted preparation courses for Cambridge English language examinations. I also organised and conducted language courses for Italian primary school teachers.

My three main areas of expertise (not necessarily in this order):

- Chess: I teach chess to beginners and intermediate players up to ELO 1800 or ECF 1700, working on the tactical and strategic aspects of openings, middle games and endgames.. "chess is life in miniature"!

- Fitness / Running / Triathlon: I coach people who want to get fitter and generally incorporate any endurance activity into a health(ier) lifestyle. I am a dedicated coach who has competed in several marathons and Ironman races (also qualified for the Ironman World Championship). I focus on nutrition, stress and sleep as well for a holistic approach.

- Languages: I specialize in tutoring Italian and Spanish; my style is to keep students challenged and motivated through simple classes and practical exercises (pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary).. I'm a demanding teacher but will guide you in a fun and interactive way.

This class is designed for anyone who would like to improve their English skills, from beginner to advanced levels. I speak German and Romanian fluently in addition to English, as well as conversational Chinese and Spanish, which may make it easier for some. I tailor the class to suit the individual; after a first session I can assess the student's goal (ie. conversational, business, written, etc. level of English) and create a program to suit this.

Can learning English be fun, insightful, productive and effective at the same time? I believe so!

Whatever your background or profession, deciding to learn a foreign language is a great way to add another dimension to your life and make your mind work in a new way. You become a (slightly) different person, since along with a new language, one learns to look at the world in a slightly different way. This is why my approach to teaching English is not only aimed at laying or strengthening the foundational knowledge - grammar, speaking, writing and listening skills, but also at introducing students to the culture of the English-speaking population. We will find out what English speakers find funny, what drives them to tears, what makes them feel proud and what they get embarrassed about.

Open to students of all levels, my course usually is taught online, using a variety of visual aids and a wide range of material, from textbooks to YouTube videos. In teaching advanced learners, I often refer to pieces of literature such as novels and poems, since they easily spark discussions, which in turn improves the students' grasp and feel of the language. In doing so, I take students beyond ordinary textbooks and grammar books, since they are no more than guides to learning, not absolute authorities, and because to me language is a living, constantly evolving matter, which you must submerge yourself into in order to understand.

In addition to my unorthodox approach, what sets me apart is a collection of unique, language-related experiences, which translate into a good ability to understand nuances of the English language. A native Russian speaker, I have lived in the UK for over 5 years, went to a Scottish boarding school and have even completed a university degree in English. I am a native Italian speaker and have more than two years of experience teaching Italian as a foreign language to English-speaking students. My path to becoming an Italian teacher began with a Bachelor's degree in Translation Studies for the German and English languages. I then completed a Master's degree in Teaching Italian as a Foreign Language at University of Bologna. Moreover, my passion for teaching the language and culture of my country led me to a second Master's degree in e-learning for teaching Italian to foreigners at University for Foreigners in Siena.

My teaching method is entirely based on the needs of the student. For those who mainly want to improve their oral expression skills, the lesson focuses a lot on conversation. In this way, grammar does not remain dry theory, but is applied again and again as you speak. Vocabulary will also come to you more quickly with practice.
