My teaching method uses the language of the drum as you don’t need to have any musical background. Anyone can learn music and enjoy the rhythm.
I can teach beginners to advanced students.

Ziya began playing the tombak (Iranian drum) at the age of ten. After a brief initiation period in Iran, he continued his autodidactic training in Quebec, his adopted homeland.
From 1994 to 2001, he studied classical Western percussion with Julien Grégoire and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in interpretation from the Université de Montréal. In a residency at The Banff Centre in the winter of 2003, he explored the contemporary repertoire with Iranian percussion instruments, which was to have a lasting influence.
A tireless traveller, he is continuing his personal research in advanced courses with Bahman Rajabi (Teheran), Aziz Alami (Fez), Trichy Sankaran (Toronto), Mısırli Ahmet (Istanbul), Shree Sundarkumar and Yogesh Samsi (India).
As a percussionist, Ziya is professionally active in early music (medieval, Renaissance and Baroque), as well as contemporary, current and world music. He performs with several other musical groups, including his Persian Music trio, Regard Persan and Ensemble Caprice. He has performed in more than 40 countries in prestigious festivals and concert halls.
Supported by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts, he has many albums to his credit on some major labels. He has also performed in recordings by the Kronos Quartet, Kayhan Kalhor, Mercan Dede, Hossein Omoumi, En Chordais and Lo’Jo. His first solo album,Tombak, stemming from his acoustic explorations and research on the rhythmic cycles of early Persian music, was released in 2007 on the Ambiances Magnétiques label. His second solo album, “The Circle of the Cycles”, released in 2017, was based on the rhythmic cycles and new techniques on the tombak. His third solo album “Zarb-e Osul”, was released in 2020, based on Persian rhythm cycles from 17th century.

Experienced Drum Tutor and Instructor

I was born in Vancouver, grew up in Germany and later moved to London. I started playing the drums at the age of 9, and after my first band experiences, I was recruited by various artists to play shows throughout Germany. I study drums at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute and work as a session drummer for touring and recording artists internationally.

My online lessons are designed to teach you a specific skillset, step by step with guidance and accountability, classically structured for beginners and advanced players. Whether you want to improve your speed, fills, grooves, independence or technique, my live sessions are a great place to start.

Step by step you will receive a wide-ranging program that introduces you to various styles and also teaches you theoretical approaches to playing the drums. Taking a combined approach of applied sheet music and programming drumlines, you will be able to play and meet your own standards or those of your band - whether it’s for practising, for live gigs or for the studio.

Playing the drums is pure action and loads of fun. You’re the one who gets to hold the steering wheel in a band. Rock, Metal, Punk, Funk, Soul, Jazz, Latin - it doesn’t matter. After all, the drums can handle any style and I’ll show you how it’s done. You will be excited, inspired and engaged with music.

Drumset lessons for beginner or intermediate players focusing on technique, rhythms, groove and breaks. Students will learn to improvise and learn how to structure songs, as well as the basis of music theory.

From a very young age I had a passion for rhythm, so naturally, percussion was my choice. I've been studying percussion and music theory for over 15 years now, and I would like to share my knowledge with whoever shares this passion.

I offer drum and percussion classes for all kinds of levels. I am open to the needs of each student. (Different styles on drums, improvisation, different percussion instruments...)

Classes will be online and the schedule will be flexible, depending on the student's needs.

My teaching is based on my experience as a percussionist, dance accompanist, teacher, composer, producer and as a designer of percussion instruments. My life is percussion: I play it, I teach it, I design percussion and I develop techniques for it. Instruments: Cajon with hands or brushes, conga, Pandeiro, tamborim, agogo, chekere, udu, pop percussion and way more. I am looking forward to meet you.

Starting from the fact that an Epic Intro of each song can determine the success of your artistic compositions, it is important to say that musical composition is a key tool to create and develop songs and concerts, through ensemble rhythms and their Syncopations you will learn to compose Epic Intros with the Afro-Cuban and Latin flavor. We will use percussion and choir instruments, body percussion and ideophone accessories (bells, Hierros, Kilin, etc.) from Drums BEAT I will teach you the Afro-Beat rhythmic marches that will give musical richness to your projects .
