“Meditation doesn’t work!”
Has this thought ever crossed your mind?
Maybe you’ve tried meditation or even done some mindfulness exercises. Sure, they might have helped you relax, maybe encouraged you to take a deep breath or two (or more) and maybe you felt a bit better. But then you got sick and scared, or had a fight with your partner, or yelled at a stranger. And you thought, “Well, eff that. I’ve been meditating for days/months/years and I’m still a jerk. Meditation doesn't work.”
And you are right.
Meditation doesn’t work if what we are trying to do is bypass the difficulties and discomfort of being a human being. If you are trying to change who you are. Then meditation definitely doesn’t work.
But it does work if what you are seeking is to suffer less. Or at least to suffer well. And you don’t even need to be a Buddhist to explore Buddhist meditation.
I look forward to meditating with you. We can practice, then talk about practice and life. It’s kind of the same thing.
