English Language and Literature tutoring for exams

I specialise in tutoring English Literature for secondary pupils, particularly GCSE students. I am currently tutoring online, so I have technical experience and have had to adapt and tailor my lessons virtually to meet my pupil's needs. I aim to challenge my pupils, but also creating an environment where they feel comfortable enough to ask any questions and go at their own pace.

Hello! I'm Jumaena. I'm a recent graduate of English Literature from Hertfordshire University. What prompted me to study this subject was my passion for fiction from my younger years. Literature's ability to encapsulate human experiences provides a connection between every reader, and while I know it is not everyone's favourite subject, English was one of my favourite subjects throughout high school. Although exams are daunting, being prepared for my English exams was important to ease exam anxiety. By knowing the characters, themes, plot and literary devices of the texts through different revision techniques, I was able to have confidence for the exam and achieve a grade I was happy with!
I would love to help students who are struggling in this subject, or those who want to improve upon their skills. I will work around an individual student's needs by assessing their strengths and weaknesses by providing them sample questions in their chosen topic. For English, visual learning is vital in understanding a text, and this can be done in creative ways such as mind-maps, illustrations, and videos, all of which provide information in an engaging way. If there is something a student doesn't understand, I will make sure to go at pace that is suitable for them. I also aim to build upon a student's confidence, whether that be for their knowledge of the subject or for the exam itself, identifying the weaknesses so we can work upon it together to further their abilities.
