While I am passionate about my subjects, I understand that not everyone is ecstatic about studying. There's no point teaching simultaneous equations to a struggling student if it isn't on the GCSE Maths Foundation syllabus!
Depending on grade that the student is aiming for/predicted I will:
●spend the first lesson with students going through their exam board syllabus, make it explicit what content is the core of the course content and structure lessons in descending importance
● (for higher level students) spend the first lesson with students going through their exam board syllabus, identify the weakest links and structure lessons in ascending order of skill
I believe in spaced repetition so revisiting topics taught before is a must!
This will manifest in the form of:
●surprise questions during the first 10 minutes of lessons
●helping prepare and working through past papers when it comes closer to exam time to encourage active recall.
During normal lessons, there will be a mix of:
●theoretical teaching
●helping the student digest, understand and store useful information that has been presented
●visual aspects (diagrams)
In order for students to efficiently absorb knowledge, I will teach one core topic per lesson.
