I have a Bachelor's degree in Hispanic Philology and despite that most of my professional experience has been in the audiovisual world, I decided to find out a new job opportunity as a Spanish teacher. So since 2017, and after obtaining the certificate for ELE (Spanish as Foreigner language), I had been doing private tutoring, and more recently I had obtained the OxfordHouse certificate for Groups Teaching Practices for Spanish teachers.
I use a very innovative teaching technique focused on the improvement of communication skills. This means you will realize how language works from the first session. Grammar and other language knowledge will come with later on but the priority is that you can use the language in your day by day. My name is Irene. I come from Guadalajara, a town close to Madrid, but live in beautiful Barcelona.

I understood very early that I like not only learning but also teaching languages and studied my Masters of Linguistics Applied to Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language. I have lived in France, India, Germany and Russia teaching Spanish. During these 15 years of teaching, I learnt a lot about different methods, people and logics.
I use a variety of resources (textbooks, articles, small videos, audios...) providing examples, exercises and homework so that what is to be learnt is doable and designed for your learning preferences. I adapt my classes to what students want and need so they make the most of their time and money.

I think it is very important for students to feel comfortable and safe. It is also essential that what we do and talk about in class makes sense and is relevant for you. It is your goal and personal style of learning what will define our classes.

I also speak English, French, German and Russian. I can explain in the student′ s mother tongue if necessary although my goal will be to speak Spanish from the very beginning with affordable exercises adapted to your level.

I love teaching and learning new languages because they bring us closer.

I treat the subject in a structured way based on pronunciation, grammar and syntax, with special attention to verbal and written communication and the linguistic and cultural context of the country of reference.
The lessons from the beginning are based on frequent pronunciation, accent and prosody exercises, to accustom the student to the peculiarities of the typical oral expression of the Spanish language. The study of grammar and syntax is regularly integrated with a series of exercises, tasks and conversation sessions dedicated to the latest topics discussed.
My particular interest is to teach students the language that is spoken At present in Spain with reference also to the cultural, literary and artistic tradition of the country, for a more complete understanding of the language and its specificities.

Speaking and understanding multiple languages adds value to your skills. As a qualified teacher (PGCE) from the UK, I am trained to teach the UK national curriculum to year 7-11 students, as well as sixth form students. I also have extensive experience in teaching adults who aim to sit the DELE, TOEFL or the German equivalent.
