Derry teaches one to one singing, tailored to each person's needs. Having qualified at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Derry uses exercises and techniques that understand and develop the natural sound of each person’s voice. So if you want to develop in classical, musical theatre, pop and rock or folk singing; Derry has experience to help you achieve your goal.

Derry creates a safe and relaxed environment - believing that to be the basis for the creative and technical work required for developing the singing voice. Whether it's heavily focused and demanding technique for professional singers, or for those that simply want to sing for fun, Derry works with professional singers, musicians, actors, talented natural singers with no previous formal experience and complete beginners. Derry is passionate about working with anyone who is curious and excited about the singing voice, and sees lessons very much as a 'partnership'.

The session include vocal exercises and technical development, learning repertoire (songs of your choice) and developing vocal and performance style.

Hello!
I am Derry and I have been a singing teacher for over a decade, a musical director and choir leader for nearly as long as that, and a performer in various forms from performing in musicals and cabarets for as long as I can remember.

I use the tried and tested techniques that preserve and protect the voice and bring out the best tone and performance you can achieve.

I work by encouragement because the voice cam never achieve its best under stress. I want you to enjoy taking the journey to achieving your best sound possible

Diploma/professional teaching qualification:
I gained my diploma in Performing Arts from Redroofs Theatre School in 2004 where on graduating I was awarded the Musical Theatre Award.

I also trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama studying Singing and Musicality where I was awarded the Singer's Prize and came 3rd in the Lutine Championships held every year.

Grade 8 distinction in both ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) Singing and RSM (Royal Schools of Music) in Musical Theatre which is the equivalent to a teaching qualification.

Jawa (1996) a Syrian oud player, singer and composer.
I was born in Aleppo, and I grew up in Damascus, Syria. I started playing music at the age of eleven. I chose the Oud as my instrument because my father used to play it everyday at home when I was young. Experienced teacher of Oud and oriental Arabic singing for over 11 years, I am Lebanese and currently residing in Germany. I studied for 8 years at the Lebanese National Conservatory. I taught at the Casa Beethoven Academy in Lebanon and gave private lessons. In addition, I was conductor of the Loubnan Assalam oriental orchestra for over 5 years.

My recommendation for learning the Oud is to start with the study of notes and musical notation before tackling pieces. Although some students prefer to play songs directly, understanding the basics of musical notation allows for faster progress in the long run. With determination and hard work, significant progress can be made in a year, allowing one to play simple melodies.
