Music Theory,

I am a Masters graduate from the Royal College of Music in London and specialise in teaching a range of musical skills including: theory, composition and clarinet. With experience teaching all ages and abilities I aim to offer lessons tailored to you or your child that are clear, engaging and enjoyable! 😊
In COMPOSITION, I can give advice on a range of styles including:
- contemporary classical music, using Sibelius software
- electronic music production/Logic (any style)
- Music for Film (theory / orchestration and using samples etc)
In CLARINET we will focus on breathing and musicality as well as technical skill. I am also keen to encourage playing by ear and from memory as well as with printed music.
In MUSIC THEORY I aim to find simple, practical solutions to help students in their understanding as well as relating the theory to well-known examples in classical and modern music.
I love meeting new people with a passion for music, from absolute beginners to the more advanced. I'd love to hear from you if any of the above sounds up your street!

Sophie is a graduate of the Royal College of Music where she studied composition with Jonathan Cole. Since graduating she has worked in theatre, film, and television as a composer/arranger, including roles at Shakespeare's Globe, RSC, The National Theatre, St James's Theatre, and Park Theatre.
Highlights include Romeo and Juliet at the RSC (dir. Erica Whyman); Remains of the Day - Out of Joint / Royal & Derngate (dir. Chris Haydon) Rosenbaum’s Rescue at the Park Theatre (dir. Kate Fahy); All You Need Is LSD - Birmingham Rep / Tour (dir. Paul Hunter & Stephen Harper); A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian and Mighty Atoms (dir. Mark Babych, Hull Truck); Bang Bang (dir. Nicky Henson and written by John Cleese); Don't Wake Me: The Ballad of Nihal Armstrong (dir. Guy Slater, St James's Theatre); Little Black Book (dir. Kate Fahy, Park Theatre); Unlined (film - dir. John Michael Mouskos - shortlisted for National Independent Film Awards 2015).
Sophie assisted Claire Van Kampen in her arrangements for the Olivier-nominated Farinelli and the King at both the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and the Duke of York's Theatre and she has also recently composed a section of score for the BFI / Shakespeare’s Globe collaborative film Play On.
