Delve into the writings of the early Christian Church Fathers with this specialized course in Patristic Greek. Designed for students with a foundational knowledge of Koine Greek, this course offers an in-depth exploration of the language and theological concepts found in the texts of key patristic authors such as Athanasius, Gregory of Nyssa, and John Chrysostom. Other texts can be selected according to the student's interest.

Through close reading and analysis of primary sources, you will gain proficiency in the unique linguistic features of Patristic Greek, including its vocabulary, syntax, and stylistic nuances. The course emphasizes the theological, philosophical, and historical contexts of these writings, allowing you to engage with the doctrinal developments and ecclesiastical debates that shaped early Christianity.

Course topics include the study of homilies, theological treatises, letters, and creeds, with a focus on understanding the exegetical methods and rhetorical strategies employed by the Church Fathers.
