Over welke thema’s zou je een film willen maken? In deze workshop leer je jezelf en je fascinatie kennen: de basis van de ontdekkingstocht naar wie je bent als filmmaker.

De eerste stappen in het jezelf leren kennen als storyteller zijn gezet. Misschien wil je graag anderen interviewen of wil je een film maken over dieren. Toch moet je een laag dieper duiken in de wereld van jouw verhaal, voordat je een stap naar buiten kan zetten. Iedereen heeft een eigen verhaal, maar hoe ga je van je fascinaties naar het vinden van jouw story?

Elke grote filmmaker is ooit begonnen met experimenteren. In deze workshop gaan we onze eigen documentairefilm maken van 1 minuut. Je leert op de stoel van de regisseur zitten, duikt in de wereld van monteren en gaat weg met je eigen film. Van fascinatie tot film: you did it!

My name is Sophie, and I am a Dutch documentary filmmaker who works internationally. I am passionate about human behavior and the differences between the inner and outer worlds of people. I explore human-interest themes in a way that is personal and brings people together. With my focus on documentary directing and mental health, I capture stories that are focused on society and shine a light on humanity in a way that is insightful, moving, and heartwarming.

Sophie (1995) is een documentairemaker en regisseur, gespecialiseerd in verhalen rondom mentale gezondheid en kwetsbare thema's, verteld met een licht poëtische stijl, filmische blik en diepgang.

In 2019 studeerde ze af in Film aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht, met specialisatie in documentaire. Tijdens haar bachelor liep ze stage in programma-ontwikkeling, maakte ze een documentaire in Oeganda en regisseerde ze haar participerende afstudeerdocumentaire De Prins op het Grijze Paard, uitgezonden bij Makers van Morgen (VPRO, NPO 2 Extra).

Na haar afstuderen deed ze werkervaring op bij creatieve broedplaats voor filmtalent Docwerk (NTR, Van Osch Films) en won ze de Gelderland Film Pitch 3 (Go Short - International Short Film Festival) met Synchroon (2022).

In 2022 startte Sophie de master Film Directing aan de Edinburgh College of Art. Ze studeerde in 2023 cum laude af met de korte documentaire Luna in Wonderland. Tijdens haar master richtte ze zich op Film Medicine: het maken van films rondom mentale gezondheid.

Na haar master won ze de Amsterthem Pitch (Shortcutz) met Chico en startte ze met het ontwikkelingsprogramma Teledoc Campus. Hieruit volgde Als de Zee (2025), die werd uitgezonden en geselecteerd voor de Gouden Kalf-competitie van het Nederlands Film Festival.

In 2025 werd ze geselecteerd voor het ontwikkelingsprogramma Bridging the Gap van het Scottish Documentary Institute voor een nieuw filmplan. Naast haar eigen werk werkt Sophie freelance als researcher, regisseur en editor voor documentaires, televisie en commerciële producties.

And if you need to prepare an oral exam or to prepare and present your own project, we'll organize personal tutoring and training.

- My method: I follow a communicative and non-frontal approach in which the student always has a leading role and is stimulated to experiment with the structures and the vocabulary learned. In general, during a lesson, I give equal space to the reinforcement of each competence (comprehension and oral production, comprehension and written production, grammatical insights), but at the request of the student, it is possible to focus on particular objectives. I offer students a wide range of Italian language books for foreigners and the choice of texts or materials to follow will be done together during a preliminary meeting.
