Nothing about applying to university is easy or straight forward. Perhaps the biggest ask is the personal statement: somehow, you are expected to condense your life story and choices down into a single sheet of paper, to advertise yourself as a student to your chosen university/universities. During an already tumultuous period of your life, you are expected to somehow reflect adequately, sell yourself, and justify your life choices all at once in order to pursue your academic dreams.

When I applied to university, I received offers from all 5 of my choices (Manchester Metropolitan University, Glasgow Caledonian University, Salford University, University of Strathclyde, and the University of West Scotland). I'm now looking to help you with your university application process. During our sessions we can look at how to best tell your story in a way that makes sense to a university admissions team, how to structure your personal statement, the type of language that is appropriate to use, and quick and easy proofreading tips.

Applying and Understanding APA (6th) Format and Referencing for Undergraduate Psychology Students

Starting out at university is difficult enough - your work is suddenly anticipated to be of a stratospheric standard while you are still settling in to a new way of life. You're affronted with new depths to your chosen field that you hadn't accounted for - and to make matters worse, everything has to be formatted in a new (to you) style called APA format.

APA formatting is a writing style and standard developed by the American Psychology Association, and many undergraduate psychology courses require all written coursework to be presented in this style; whether it be a scientific report or a long-form essay. Together we will spend these sessions breaking down exactly what the APA format is, and how to ensure all of your written work meets those standards. Throughout our sessions, we will cover how to use APA-style referencing, how to format our psychological reports (both Quantitative and Qualitative) via the use of appropriate headings and sub-headings, how to present statistics, and more.

I am a recent BSc Psychology graduate holding a first-class degree. I achieved this by ensuring my academic writing style and grasp of the APA format was of a high standard. I look forward to sharing what I've learnt with you!

History and politics have always been a passion of mine and I am very much willing to teach anyone who desires any tutoring. At times it can be very difficult and overwhelming if you need to make an exam or write an essay - I can be there to help in case you need guidance! The goal here would be to make you understand history better, organize patterns in your head and possibly make you love the subject! This should definitely help in either expanding your worldview, or enhancing your history grades. I am willing to teach history (or politics/maatschappijleer) in Dutch or English.

I have little preference in regard to eras or themes in history, but if you must know I especially enjoy political and military macro-history. The grand patterns throughout history fascinate me, with of course, attention to large events. No era or area is particularly strange to me, again, being able to process history is the goal here!

The grand goal is to get a basic, intermediate or advanced understanding in one of the subjects. I could, possibly, rehearse with you and ask you how fluent you are in the topics at hand. I am fully willing to adapt to the student his or her academic needs. In case you wish me to help you in structuring or writing a history essay, then this, too is no problem!

During my studies in Econometrics at the University of Amsterdam (graduated in 2015, MSc.) and in addition to my job as a consultant, I have always taught mathematics and statistics to secondary school students and university students (HBO and WO) with great pleasure. After completing IB English Lang/Lit HL and receiving 7s in my HL Essays and IO, I am ready to help others achieve their highest potential when it comes to essay writing.

In my recent written university work I have received 80+/100 and this grade range is the Highest Distinction.

We will begin with a first lesson in order to get to know each other and see whether our goals align. We will discuss what exactly you need help with and make a weekly tutoring schedule. This is especially important when it comes to planning and writing HL essays and IOs. I will provide you with feedback, help you structure your work and read through it with you. I will also set deadlines for the next class that I expect you to meet. Keep in mind I pay great attention to grammar, spelling and overall clarity. IOs can be especially daunting, the idea of speaking for 10 minutes straight in essay format scared me too but I did it and received a 7, and I am here to provide you with tips and advice on how to achieve this.
