Film and Media Studies often involve a mix of history, sociology, philosophy and visual art which can be a bit much to take in. This course is designed to talk through the key themes and theories of a standard Film Studies or Media Studies A-level course, giving you a head start on your understanding of a subject which is crucial to undertsanding our media-rich contemporary world.

ABOUT ME
I've been working as a freelance film producer and media professional since 2010, producing work for a range of different markets. In that time I've mentored a number of people and been mentored myself - now I'm keen to pass on my knowledge to others.
I hold a full, enhanced DBS certificate.

MY EXPERIENCE
I've lectured at a number of colleges and schools, as well as having delivered workshops and seminars for small (and larger) audiences.

MY TUTORING STYLE
I can support individuals on a one-to-one basis using targeted, task orientated learning practices, or through a more flexible approach; whatever works for you. I believe in the importance of holistic learning, so I'll try wherever possible to provide links to complimentary disciplines.

More than anything, I believe that the best learning environment is a relaxed, focussed and trusting one. I want my tutees to be comfortable at all times and I'll spend time making sure you and I get that balance right before we begin.

I teach Davinci Resolve and Premiere Pro from beginner to advanced.

In the beginner and intermediate courses, all the important basics are covered and practiced using practical applications.

The advanced courses go into finer details, such as advanced editing techniques or shed light on specific processes such as proxy workflows or colour management.

Structure:

The technical lessons are structured in 1 hour modules, using practical examples and allow time for experimentation and questions.

I also teach editing theory and creative strategies across many different genres and styles. These are less structured and are tailored to specific needs.

Open Sessions are also possible, where you may bring along a personal project and I will offer you technical assistance, feedback or tips.

Stories are as old as we are, but if you want to put a story on paper or portray a story, it turns out to be more difficult than talking to your friends. How about now?
Not what you tell, but HOW you tell it is the most important.
The basics and how to use psychology to write a story, this is what you will learn anyway. Those who want to continue afterwards will learn how to write a script. Fiction or facts, you decide what you want to learn.

This is a hands-on experience course about filmmaking. We go through all the procedures of you making a short film which is going to be the fruit of your effort :)! We work on the storytelling (does not have to be a conventional type of a story, there is no single way of telling stories), analysis of the script (if any), making a shot list, looking for the crew, taking shots, post-production (mainly editing), receiving feedback, and voilà!

Video editing is a essential and often overlooked skill nowadays. More and more people need video for their business, carreers, hobbies or other personal projects, and the easier way to make a video go from amateur looking to professional looking is to improve the quality of the editing. Besides that, things like a good workflow, asset organization and other good practices when editing will speed up the edit and make the process as a whole more efficient.

In my classes, I believe in understanding the student's needs for video editing and thus curating the content I teach to fit those needs.
