Essay - based subjects are notoriously difficult to gain the top marks in, especially considering the sometimes frustrating subjectivity of exam markers. Through a holistic approach which combines exam technique, learning independent analysis skills, improving content knowledge and essay writing skills, I hope to give students both the practical skillset and the confidence that they need in order to achieve the grades that they deserve.

Through this course, I hope to help students develop these skills independently, so that they are capable of confidently applying them in a cross-curricular manner. For example, learning to analyse texts (for English Literature or French), and learning to analyse primary and secondary sources (for History) are different skills, but require much of the same basic abilities: good observation, critical thinking, and creativity.

Whilst essay writing will always be individual, there is a quantifiable, systematic approach that can consistently achieve good results, no matter the exam board. By tailoring this class to each student, I aim to hone these four aforementioned skills in order to provide dependable and impressive results throughout school.

Hi, and welcome to my page!

My name is Alice and I'm currently an undergraduate student at King's College London, studying History and Modern Languages.

Whilst at school, I ran the school's tutoring scheme and tutored KS3 and GCSE pupils, as well as a small amount of teaching English as a foreign language. Going through my A Levels, I recognised a disparity between the intelligence and knowledge of many of my cohort, and the exam results they were getting. This made me realise that there was a lack of focus on the pragmatic side of taking exams, and so I developed techniques that adhered to the specific requirements of each of my exam boards.

Whilst education should always be applicable to the wider world, I recognise that it is vitally important to get the best results possible at GCSE and A Level. This is why I like to teach these subjects in a holistic manner: maintaining a focus on building a dependable, solid technique whilst simultaneously creating a solid foundation of written and verbal expression, independent analysis and critical thinking that will not only buoy students' academic success, but also give them the communication skills and intellectual independence needed to succeed throughout their lives.

I am an avid reader, amateur musician (and keen concert goer!), and write for small English and French language publications in my spare time. I love chatting about music, TV and films, and would love to know every and any recommendations!

I am very flexible in teaching. The aim is for the student to reach a target level as quickly as possible. For this I analyze during the first lesson where the shortcomings are and in this way draw up a learning program (always in consultation with the student/parents).
