The course is open to all students. My goal is to help others have a better understanding in cell biology, cell physiology and molecular biology. When necessary certain homework will be assigned. Also, I am willing to share pdf files of different related books that I consider helpful. Study load will be approximately 2-3 hours a week depending on the level of the student. Topics to be discussed include mostly: Carbohydrates, Lipids, Nucleic Acids, Proteins, Cell Membranes, Cell Cycle and Cell Division, Cancer, Cell Signalling, Physiology, Homeostasis, Neurons and Basic Genetics (mutations and regulation of gene expression). Periodic progress reports will be available for everyone. For the students that are interested in broader topics, discussion including applied laws to relevant biology topics, such as patents, or ethical issues will be encouraged. The student is encouraged to choose the relevant topic they wish to be discussed in each class. For this course, good books for extra assistance are: The Science of Biology by Savada et al. (any edition) or Biology The Science of Life by Nowicki.
I would like to help others get better in English vocabulary, grammar and the art of writing essays/papers. My goal is to keep students challenged. I will assign relevant homework after each class for more practise. Besides the necessary vocabulary, phrases, clauses, morphology and grammar learning, this class will, also, focus on essay writing (approximately 500 words on different topics depending on the level and interests of the student): structure information, correct citations and referencing, appropriate academic language and style, etc...and for the students who are interested, research writing. The student is encouraged to choose a relevant topic they wish to be discussed in each class in terms of the vocabulary. Suitable books for extra assistance depending on the student level are: World Power Made Easy by Lewis (for beginners: focuses on vocabulary), English Made Easy by Crichton & Koster (for beginners: focuses on vocabulary), Oxford English Grammar Course by Swan & Walter (intermediate level), English Unlimited by by Rea et al. (intermediate level).

This class will include the introduction of the adaptive and innate immune system, the complement system, cytokines, antibodies introduction, membrane receptors, allergens, activation of the lymphocytes, the different cells of the immune system: B-cells, T-cells, macrophages, monocytes, etc..., and, also, immunodeficiencies, certain autoimmune diseases, lymphomas, or leukemias depending on the interest of the student.
I would like to help others gain more knowledge in the different topics of biochemistry. I have been helping unofficially students to have a better understanding of the relevant topics by drawing enzymes, easy-made steps of processes, generating multiple choice small quizzes, etc... Homework will be assigned when necessary and periodic progress reports will be available to all students. Study load will be approximately 2-3 hours a week depending on the level of the student. Basic chemistry introduction will be provided if necessary. Relevant topics to be discussed are: Proteins: composition and structure, Cell Membranes, Channels, Pumps, Receptors, Oxidative Phosphorylation, Glycolysis and Gluconeogenesis, The Citric Acid Cycle, Photosynthesis, Fatty Acid Metabolism, Ketogenesis, RNA Synthesis etc. The student is encouraged to choose the relevant topic they wish to be discussed in each class. For this class a good book for extra assistance is: Biochemistry by Berg et al. (6th edition).
