About Me

As a teacher, I always find out what my students want to reach first. Do they need to reach a basic level or conversational level? Do they want to concentrate on reading and understanding or speaking? According to their goals, I set up a plan that is reachable for the student; not too difficult but challenging enough.

I regularly check with the student whether we are still heading in the right direction, and change the plan if necessary.

I believe that there is no shame in making mistakes, it is in fact a large part of learning a new language, and will only make you speak better in the end. So I encourage my students to try making their own sentences, trying to think in a new language will greatly help advancement.

Besides Dutch language, I will also teach you about Dutch culture and a bit of history if you are interested in that. A language is easier to learn when you know the country a bit, and definitely becomes more fun to study! Did you know that many expressions in Dutch come from life lived on a boat? This is because the Netherlands are historically a seafaring nation, and a lot of the expressions used back in the day is still used today.

I am an experienced Dutch teacher for adults and older children who want to study Dutch as a preparation for a long term stay in The Netherlands. After that, and for advanced students, the lessons will center around conversation and Dutch used in daily life. If desired, we can tailor the lesson plan to your specific needs. I will use Dutch as much as possible during class, but I can provide explanations in English or basic Japanese. Read more »
