Learn Python for scientific and engineering applications. All levels welcome!

Do you want to improve your productivity in class or at work? Are you tired of using Excel for things it's not meant for? Do you want to analyze and visualize your data? Do you want to generate valuable insights? Do you want to talk to sensors and devices? Then you've come to the right place.

You don't need to want to become a developer in order to learn Python. Most people who program in Python actually work in another field, but use Python as a superpower to help them do their job more efficiently and effectively, or even do do things that were previously impossible.

I will be teaching you one-on-one. We'll see what you want to do, and I help you work towards that goal. I will be using best practices as appropriate to your level.

We might work with Jupyter notebooks if you have nothing more specific that you prefer to do. But I can also work with you on analyzing your data, controlling your devices and robots, or even building tools that you feel that you need. Depending on your application, we might even do some machine learning.

Some case studies involving students of mine:

In one case, I started by automating one report of a financial analyst who had never programmed before, allowing him to start learning Python on during working hours. I also automated one of his side jobs, giving him more disposable income. He has since automated many more of his tasks, and has been providing completely new insights to his company, This has earned him a promotion and a sponsored masters degree. I still provide support as necessary.

In another, I enabled a PhD student to analyze their electron-phase micrographs by writing software with them which did the job of commercial software with an expensive license. I was acknowledged by name in their paper.

Note: Python 3 only, unless you are required to use Python 2.

Extra information

Bring your own laptop. If you haven't used Python before, try to make sure that you can use Python 3 and numpy on your computer before the lesson. I recommend Anaconda for Windows users, and you should already have it if you're on Mac or Linux.

If you have a project we would be working on, make sure the code runs on your computer already, unless your objective is to have me get it running. Also, please send me your code and explanation of the problem before the lesson so that we can get started more quickly.

About Me

Hello!

I'm a robotics engineer and a Python expert. I have lived and worked in many countries around the world, and speak nine languages. I lived in Japan for four years while I did my masters, and have been speaking it for more than ten. In fact, my Japanese is better than some of my native languages.

I will be teaching Python programming (especially focusing on the scientific stack), as well as Japanese, and maybe some English, Math or Physics too. I love helping people learn.

Here are a couple of examples of some of my students on how Python changed their lives.

In one case, I started by automating one report of a financial analyst working for a grocery store chain, allowing him to start learning Python on the job. I also automated one of his side jobs, giving him more disposable income. He has since automated many more of his tasks, and has been providing useful insights to his company, which earned him a promotion and a sponsored masters degree. I still provide support as necessary.

In another, I enabled a PhD student to analyze their electron-phase micrographs by writing software with them which did the job of commercial software with an expensive license. I was acknowledged by name in their paper. He has since graduated.

Note: All classes at the student's location must be somewhere where no smokers (including e.g., roommates or parents) live.

Education

Masters of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Laboratory, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan. 2017.
Bachelor of Applied Sciences, Honours Mechatronics Engineering, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada. 2013.

Experience / Qualifications

I've worked in 5 countries. Most recently, I was a data scientist in Antwerp, then an industry automation consultant here in Brussels.

Jean is a good teacher. He has patience and is really involved. He helped me a lot in how to understand and write japanese with the use of built in tools on my laptop/iPhone. Thank you Jean!
Jean's knowledge of Python is extensive. He has a unique ability to communicate and adapt his teaching to fit your experience level/goals flawlessly. Most importantly he is a tremendously patient teacher. I am looking forward to more of his guidance in the months to come!
Jean is a very patient and helpful pedagogue. I came to him with a very specific set of requests and he helped me tremendously. We have more lessons planned because of this, to which I am looking forward.
First of all, Jean was amazing! He responded very quickly and answered every question I had! He is extremely knowledgeable and his help was just what I needed! He is very friendly and he adjusts the pace to his students. I am very glad I contacted him and I strongly recommend him for anyone who wants to learn programming languages or has trouble doing so! I will definitely study with him again!
Do you want to learn programming? Do you have lots of boring, repetitive tasks, either at work or at home? Are you having trouble with your homework or your courses? Do you want to automate your life? Then come learn Python with me. You don't need to want to become a developer in order to learn Python. Most people who program in Python actually work in another field, but use Python as a superpower to help them do their job more efficiently and effectively. I will be teaching you one-on-one. Konnichiwa! Do you want to learn Japanese? Or do you want someone to practice with? Join me, and we'll work together to improve your level. I have over ten years of experience speaking Japanese, and lived in Japan for four of these, where I did my masters in engineering completely in Japanese (except for the thesis). I will be primarily teaching Japanese grammar at the beginner and intermediate levels, but I should also be able to help you even at more advanced levels. I tend to mainly teach with conversation, but we can also dive into the details if that's what you prefer. The lesson could be conducted entirely in Japanese, or I can explain certain concepts in French or (preferably) English.
Are you having trouble with homework? Do you have a class that's so frustrating you don't see the point in learning it? I'm a robotics engineer, and I love helping people learn and appreciate the world around them. I'll help you with your homework, and I can show you where pretty much anything you might learn is used in real life. I might even be able to show you places you could implement it yourself!

Solve Python University Tasks With Professional 1:1 Online Tuition
+Assignment Help - Exam Preparation - Practice in Python related University modules Hey, Alexandros here :)! I work as a self-employed full-time private tutor having recently completed a Master's at UCL. Here, I am involved with tutoring undergraduate and postgraduate students in Python, Monday to Saturday. What makes me a great tutor is that I encourage students to develop their problem solving and critical skills on a wide range of practical programming tasks. This means students are not simply learning facts but are able to think more independently and laterally. I'm also really friendly, patient and try to make my lessons really engaging. In my spare time I enjoy walking, singing and socialising.

A Moment of Science Please! Science on Finger Tips!
I am Pragya! I graduated in Biochemistry (Honours) from Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi. I further went on to pursue my master’s degree in Medical Biochemistry from Jamia Hamdard, Delhi. I am currently pursuing Doctorate in Biological Sciences from Queen’s University, Belfast, United Kingdom. During all these years I realised that the classes I appreciated most were not necessarily the topics I was most interested in, rather it were the professors who made the classes enjoyable and interesting. All these professors had one thing in common, they were always engaging and comprehensible when teaching and moreover were willing to go an extra mile when asked for additional help and clarification. I will carry the same approach and knowledge to my tutoring sessions and do everything to make learning a pleasant experience. I use lesson plans in which I usually introduce the topic in a fun and creative way, then explicitly teaching the material. The biggest strategy I strictly adhere in my sessions is “Revise the old; learn the new”. Of course, this method can be adjusted based on the subject and student’s individual needs. I currently demonstrate on module for biomedical science and in total have eight years of tutoring experience. I want to benefit the students I work with best of my capabilities therefore, I am open to any additional resources and suggestions from both students and parents. I am easy to reach and always provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!

School Support in Math, English, Science, Biology, Physics.
I have been on this platform for several years now, since I started I have had the opportunity to teach many children who did not find their place in the current school system. Having been in their place, I understand them quickly and I am comfortable explaining to them. In the meantime I also had the chance to go on a humanitarian trip and teach children in need in Vietnam, it was a more than enriching experience and I now carry a very particular importance to education in general. I am now a student of the Grande École hôtelière de Lausanne which allows me to open my field of vision to many other subjects and cultures. My first internship has just ended at the Ritz Carlton Tokyo and I am back in Switzerland, more motivated than ever.

Elias
From Rietveld refinement to Quantitative Phase Analysis using FullProf or Topas.
This course is not a crystallography course but rather a practical course on X-Ray or Neutron Diffraction Analysis using a structure solver program. This course is primarily intended for bachelor to Ph.D. students in physics and chemistry, oriented towards the fields of materials science and inorganic chemistry, and feeling not comfortable with the data analysis using the structure solver programs such as FullProf or TOPAS. I do not refine your data, but I discuss methodology with you, I teach and I show you the tricks, I help you to track byproducts if any, and so on... my role is the remove the "black box" effect behind the method and/or the software. This course is adapted to any needs: it can be taken to better understand the key issues of the data collection, the diffractometer setup, the philosophy of the structure refinement workflow and how to adapt it to your needs, the course can be taken to improve your way to perform a phase identification, and generally to better handle the structure solver program. PS: as a researcher, I follow and respect any privacy policies and I understand confidentiality levels associated with your research activities. I suggest to work on basic powder diffraction patterns, or already published data of my own.
