Viola and Violin Lessons: Technique, Improv, and a Healthy Relationship with your Instrument

This course is for viola and violin students from the beginner through the intermediate level. My goal is for my students to foster a healthy and long-term relationship with their instrument. The course focuses on practicing and truly understanding technique, with an emphasis on listening. Weekly assignments tend to include technical exercises, scales, and classical pieces of the student's choice. Basic improvisation is also an interest of mine and, I find, a valuable experience for my string students.

I believe repertoire is largely a matter of student taste. Students of mine have learned pieces in the Suzuki books and other classical repertoire volumes, but have also learned pop and fiddle songs according to their interest.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance from the University of Puget Sound, where I graduated in 2015 before moving to Vienna to study privately for three years. I am currently in the Master of Viola Performance degree at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where I study with Ásdís Valdimarsdottir. I have been teaching violin throughout my studies since 2009.

While my musical education is classical, my performance interests are much wider. I have performed jazz and pop improv, and am currently exploring how hip hop can be implemented on the viola and violin.

About Me

Hello! My name is Zachary and I have a passion for languages.

I hold a degree in music with a minor in German from a small private university in the United States. After graduating, I decided to pursue my musical and lingual endeavours in Austria. Since then I have developed my understanding of and fluency in German, speaking every day, reading books, and practicing with my Austrian girlfriend and her family. To finance my studies I have been teaching English in various settings and to various age groups. I am currently pursuing my Master's degree in viola performance in The Netherlands, where I am underway learning the Dutch language as well.

My interest in the German language, as well as my teaching method, centers around grammatical understanding and training combined with vocabulary en masse. I believe any English speaker has the capability of reaching proficiency in German within two years. It is only a matter of putting in the time to learn the necessary vocabulary and having the right tutor to clarify grammatical concepts. I look forward to helping you on your path to learning this precise and fascinating language!

This class is for students with up to one semester of university German experience. The course covers vocabulary and grammar, with the possibility for conversational practice, depending on student ability. I hold a minor in German and have been living and developing my German abilities in Vienna, Austria for three years. As someone who learned the structure of this grammatically complex language as an adult - beginning in university - I am in a unique position both to describe and explain grammatical concepts such as word order, cases, and noun genders, among other concepts that can be stumbling blocks for beginning German students.

Marina
Violin and Viola lessons for all ages in The Hague
Violin & Viola lessons for all levels and ages. I offer lessons for people who want to start playing as well as for those who have already some knowledge and want to broaden it. I can also teach the basics of music theory and help you with your solfège. I think music learning must be a dynamic and enjoyable process. Every student is different so in my lessons I listen to the students wishes and ideas, and try to adapt to his/her needs. About me - I am a Bachelor graduate by the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. I am currently living in The Hague and studying my Masters Degree in HKU Utrechts Conservatorium. I consider myself a patient and enthusiastic person. I believe everyone can learn music - you just need the right tools in the right moment!

Private Violin and Viola lessons for all ages and abilities
I am an experienced violin/viola teacher recently arrived in the Netherlands from Australia. I have a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the University of Melbourne and am currently completing a Bachelor of Early Music at the Royal Conservatoire at the Hague. I have been teaching for more than 10 years, and since 2013 was running a strings program at a steiner school in Tropical North Australia, as well as running a busy teaching studio and conducting community orchestras in the area. I love teaching and consider it one of my main passions. I enjoy working with students of all ages, and have taught several adult students of varying abilities, as well as children as young as four. I aim for my lessons to be enjoyable, inspirational, systematic, and holistic (covering many different musical aspects and skills in one lesson). I am a friendly and patient teacher who believes in all my students and helps them be the best they can be.
